A new experience is coming to Volkswagen cars and electric vehicles that will introduce multiplayer games to its infotainment system via its AirConsole integration. There would only be selected Volkswagen vehicles that will get this AirConsole experience, with as many as eight cars getting this latest integration, expanding more on its multi-entertainment capabilities.

Gaming on vehicles is expanding in this day and age, with Tesla among the most popular ones as its built-in infotainment capabilities feature many titles to enjoy.

There would be no more need to install consoles or systems in cars to experience gaming, especially for Volkswagen, as the company has announced its latest AirConsole integration. Initially unveiled as part of its electric ID.7 release, VW also revealed that there would be seven other vehicles that would offer multiplayer games right on the VW Active Info Display systems.

It will be a video game streaming service from AirConsole that would be accessible on Volkswagen's infotainment system, and it would then act as a console.

This would first be available by mid-September to European countries, offering six games including GoKart Air, Trivia Crack, Ludo, Tumblestone, Friends Quiz, and Golazo

Volkswagen AirConsole: What Cars Are Getting This Feature?

There would be eight cars that will get this AirConsole integration from Volkswagen. This includes the likes of the Volkswagen electric vehicles ID.7, ID.5, ID.4, and ID.3 on the ID. software 4.0.

Moreover, internal combustion engines (ICEs) will also get this new feature including the new Passat, Tiguan, Golf, and Golf Estate. According to the German car company, it would require an active VW Connect Plus contract to get this AirConsole integration.

Gaming in Cars: What Are Available From Automakers

The advancements introduced with electric vehicles also popularized the arrival of games on infotainment systems, with Elon Musk and Tesla pioneering the experience. For a long time now, Tesla has introduced its famed Steam integration to its infotainment system, allowing access to Valve's game library to play inside the EVs, with some using the steering wheel as a controller.

More recently, there was BMW's famed AirConsole integration which launched last year, centering on multiplayer games to enjoy on the car's entertainment system. It was regarded that this was inspired by Tesla's innovation of integrating games in its EVs, with the i7 model being its first vehicle to get the gaming experience, as part of its 'smart car' offers.

After what was popularized by Tesla and followed by BMW for its cars, Volkswagen is embracing gaming on its vehicles to expand more on the entertainment offers for drivers to enjoy. Coming this September in Europe and soon to other regions, eight cars from VW, mostly on its electric vehicles, are getting the AirConsole integration available on the Active Info Display systems for multiplayer game experiences.
