The latest Made by Google event ended not less than two weeks ago, but there are no leaks behind a new Google Pixel 9a, the budget smartphone version of its mainline releases. There would be massive changes coming to this version of the cheaper smartphone version but it was said to feature the same Tensor G4 chipset that currently powers its recent Pixel 9 series.
Google Pixel 9a Renders Leak: No Camera Bar, Flat-Edge Design
As originally posted by a Vietnamese fan group dedicated to the Pixel, new renders of the Pixel 9a leaked online and showed off the new look of the budget device. The existing images of the new Pixel 9a were later reposted by renowned insider and leaker, ShrimpApplePro via X, offering a first look behind the new smartphone and features massive changes to its design.
One of the most noticeable changes here is the rear camera bar on the alleged Pixel 9a or its lack thereof. Instead of having a bar that stretches the width of the device, the Pixel 9a would only have the dual lens and flash array.
Another focus of this leak is Google's embodiment of the iPhone-like design which centers on flat edges with rounded corners, fully letting go of its curved and rounded design from older Pixels.
What to Expect from the Google Pixel 9a
According to ShrimpApplePro, the leaker was an employee, hence the post's deletion. However, it was not revealed if the original poster was a Google employee or that of its manufacturer.
It is also believed that the Pixel 9a will be available by the end of the year and will be offered in four color options including a new silver color. That being said, this information is not yet confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.
Google's Pixel Development
The latest in Google's smartphone offerings is the Pixel 9 series which now introduced a four-variant release which isthe first time from the renowned internet company. This centers on the Pixel 9 base variant, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and its newest, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold which is the rebranded Google Pixel Fold that is now part of the numbered series.
One of its main selling points for the Pixel 9 series is the Tensor G4 chipset which uses the latest 4nm process from Samsung, and focuses on its capabilities to carry on-device AI, better than the G3. However, initial reviews on its benchmark tests claim that it only saw small improvements compared to the last-gen chipset, with the Pixel 9 Pro XL scoring 1.17 million points on its benchmark.
Now that the Pixel 9 series is here and many are marveling at what the new flagship smartphone lineup has to offer, customers are considering what to purchase from Google. However, for those who want a cheaper version of the device, there is an upcoming Pixel 9a which will see less costs from the regular releases, but would have to wait until possibly, the end of 2024.
