Apple's Mac App Store no longer lists the 'Twitter for Mac' app on its platform, causing a wave of users sharing this latest discovery and asking about what happened to it. While it was not revealed how many downloads it has on the Mac or how many users are still actively using this dedicated Apple computer app, it has been one of the go-to by a niche community.

Despite it being delisted from the Mac App Store, users who still have this installed on their computers may continue to use it.

Various social media users have shared messages of "RIP Twitter for Mac" as the application is no longer accessible on Mac's App Store, bidding goodbye to the dedicated platform on Apple's computer. According to a report from 9to5Mac, it is officially no longer listed on the Apple App Store, with earlier spotters claiming that the app is already missing.

It is speculated that X, the platform that was previously known as Twitter, already came around to removing the said app after years of leaving it around.

This came years after the app had already been abandoned by the company, especially as it is not widely used compared to its mobile app versions.

What Happened to Twitter for Mac App?

In another claim from a user, X allegedly asked users to delete the Twitter for Mac app on their Apple computers earlier today. This follows the initial reports about the Mac App Store's delisting of the social media app.

There are still no official statements from X regarding this recent delisting, but what is sure is that users may no longer be able to download it. However, for those who have it installed, it is still available to use.

X and Its Current Developments

It was in 2011 when Twitter moved towards expanding more on platform-based experiences, releasing the Twitter for Mac app, a year after it released its dedicated iOS experience. However, it initially faced criticism from users about its buggy experience, with many seeking an update for the app from the company, one that was promised in 2015

Before this, the Twitter for Mac app was previously known as Tweetie, but despite the efforts to offer an official Mac experience, it was not able to deliver as well as its mobile counterparts. In 2018, it was revealed that the Twitter for Mac app was officially dead, with the social media still under Jack Dorsey's leadership shutting down the experience.

While most users may opt to browse Twitter, now X, via its website on browser platforms, there are still a handful of users who prefer the app version that is native to Macs. However, that is now officially over as the Mac App Store already delisted Twitter for Mac, with users no longer able to download it despite appearing on search, but for those who already have it, fortunately, it is still usable.
