Apple names LG Display as the secondary vendor for the OLED displays of the fourth-generation iPhone SE. What other things can we expect from the upcoming model?

The primary supplier for the iPhone SE 4's OLED panels remains BOE, a Chinese display manufacturer. However, given BOE's previous challenges with OLED panel yield for high-end iPhone models, Apple has wisely chosen to diversify its supply chain by including LG Display as a backup option, according to a report by South Korean newspaper The Elec.

With this strategic decision, Apple can mitigate potential production issues and ensure a steady supply of OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone SE.

Lower-Cost OLED Panels for iPhone SE 4

To maintain the iPhone SE's affordable pricing, Apple is opting for OLED panels that utilize older technology. These panels, similar to those found in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, will reduce production costs and allow Apple to offer a competitive price point for the new model, according to MacRumors.

iPhone SE 4 Expected Launch and Features

The iPhone SE 4 is slated for mass production in October 2024, with a potential release in the spring of 2025. This new iteration will boast a larger 6.06-inch OLED display, replacing the previous LCD panel. Additionally, the device is expected to adopt the iPhone 14's design language, featuring a notch, Face ID, and a USB-C port.

In mid-July, Tech Times reported that a new iPhone SE 4 rumor pointed out to its striking similarities with the iPhone 16 model. It was also mentioned in the report that the early CAD render leaks suggested that it would be the biggest iteration in the SE line.

By incorporating OLED technology and a modern design, the Cupertino Titan aims to revitalize the iPhone SE lineup and attract a wider audience while maintaining its affordability.

Meanwhile, another story said that Apple targeted India to be a main hub for the manufacturing of future iPhone Pro models. For the first time, it's steering away from China. With the reduced reliance on the powerhouse tech site, the iPhone maker has now many options to produce the next-gen smartphones for the years to come.

According to a source familiar with the matter, this would apply to the iPhone 16 Pro models which would be assembled after the launch of the regular variants.

With India expanding its role in electronics manufacturing, many companies might follow Apple in considering it as a destination for the tech workforce. Opportunities will bloom in the country when this happens.
