A massive change will come for the Apple Watch SE in its next release, with new reports claiming that Apple will use an all-plastic body for the smartwatch to help it cut costs. This would be the first time any Apple Watch lineup will use plastic for the primary device, replacing the metal that encapsulates it since it came out in 2020.
It will be similar to the massive change from Apple when it offered its affordable smartphone, the iPhone 5C, the first and only iPhone to use plastic.
Apple Watch SE to Use Plastic Body to Cut Costs
Apple is cooking up a new change for the Apple Watch SE, according to Bloomberg, one that would help further cut costs on the budget wearable, and it will soon use an all-plastic body for the wearable. It was regarded that this new device would feature a "rigid" plastic chassis that would house the Apple Watch SE, further cutting up costs and making it more affordable.
However, it was noted that 2022's Apple Watch SE featured a "nylon composite" plastic material, which would see a further change in this release.
It was regarded that this all-plastic body would be less environmentally-friendly compared to 2022's material and would be available for $249.
New Apple Watch SE: When Is It Coming?
It is believed that the new all-plastic Apple Watch SE will debut alongside the new iPhone 16 and updated version of the Apple Watch, believed to be called the Series 10, later this September. The fall event already has a lot in store for Apple's future releases, focusing on the Apple Watch, which will deliver on three lineups, offering different colors and variants along the way.
Apple Watch and iPhone 5C
Before the iPhone 5SE and the SE lineup, there was the iPhone 5C, the first affordable and budget smartphone from Cupertino, which Apple delivered to the world in 2013. It was also the first iPhone to get a plastic body, offering vibrant colors to users, which is also a first for the smartphone lineup. However, it saw terrible reviews when it was released by Apple.
Since then, Apple has considered delivering cheaper versions of its devices under the SE suffix, with the Apple Watch getting its own SE back in 2020. This was later followed up in 2022 when Cupertino debuted the Apple Watch SE second generation, which brought improvements to the device, but it was initially speculated to offer new versions like 'rugged' and more.
As Apple expands its lineup, especially with cheaper iPhone and Vision Pro options, the Apple Watch is now speculated to be getting another SE version this year. It is believed that the SE is updated every two years, with 2024 marking the cycle for a new Apple Watch SE, now with a plastic body for a cheaper price.
