The man behind Rimac, Mate Rimac, debuted the latest electric vehicle brand called Verne, touting its focus on Level 4 Autonomy EVs that will arrive on the market soon. There is now a race in the electric vehicle world to deliver self-driving cars to users, one that is eligible to be used in public spaces and recognized by regulatory bodies for its autonomy.

From focusing on its electric hypercars, Rimac is now diving into autonomous driving cars, with Verne soon to make it happen.

Rimac's Verne is a New EV Brand with a Level 4 Autonomy Focus

Mate Rimac and his colleagues turned their previous development, Project 3 Mobility, into Verne, a new Croatia-based electric vehicle brand that will deliver Level 4 autonomous electric vehicles. The new company promises a full experience of the self-driving vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals, with the car in absolute control of the trip.

The company has taken inspiration from French novelist and writer Jules Verne, best known for his works about traveling the world, including Journey to the Center of the Earth and Around the World in 80 Days

It was launched earlier today at Rimac's headquarters in Croatia. It centers on a new EV platform that prioritizes comfort and safety, with its main focus on an autonomous car powered by Mobileye Drive.

Self-Driving Cars with Level 4 Autonomy: What to Expect from Verne?

Verne aims to deliver a self-driving fleet that will offer an entirely hands-free experience with its two-seater cabin, including a massive screen with its self-designed UI and an app to dictate one's destination. From hypercars to Bugatti through its partnership with Porsche, Rimac is now diving into the world of autonomy with its latest, Verne.

Autonomous Driving Vehicles Development

Many companies have dipped their hands into autonomous driving development to apply to their vehicles, with most of the applications in the modern world being electric cars. Tesla is among those who popularized the experience with its Autopilot and Full-Self Driving, with its CEO and co-founder known for introducing a robotaxi venture that is coming soon.

Another renowned company, Mercedes-Benz, is known for its massive focus on developing its MB. OS's proprietary operating system will be responsible for almost everything inside its cars. This centers on a Level 3 autonomy rating complemented by NVIDIA's Orin chip, Luminar's LiDAR for sensors, and Google Maps for navigation under its Drive Pilot system.

Alphabet's Waymo, GM Cruise, Ford, and more also focus on autonomous driving developments to deliver in the future, offering a significant hands-free experience for all. Rimac may stay with its electric performance cars, but Verne is now the owner's latest focus towards Level 4 autonomy, which may hit the market in as early as two years.
