Toyota is taking a massive move for its electrification experiences in Japan, as it reportedly announced that Lexus charging stations all around the East Asian country are now available to access by other EV brands. It was recently revealed that all EV owners may now be able to access Lexus' charging stations despite being initially exclusive to the brand. 

In this latest move, Toyota is doing the same thing as Tesla's massive focus on the NACS and Supercharger access to other brands in the US. 

Toyota's Lexus Charging Stations Now Open for All EVs

Toyota Motor Corporation recently announced that its luxury car brand Lexus, particularly its charging stations, is now available for all EV brands, according to a Japan News report. The latest announcement makes Lexus charging stations accessible for all kinds of electric vehicles that need charging via its 150kW max quick chargers. 

Previously, Lexus charging stations were exclusive to Lexus owners and accessible via the My Lexus app. It offers its users complimentary refreshments while waiting, workspaces, reserved spots, and discounts for various services. 

Additionally, users may reserve a spot up to 60 days in advance to access the charging stations and pay conveniently via the app.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus Charging Locations

Currently, there are two Lexus rapid charging stations in Japan: the first one is in Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, and the other is at Karuiza Common Grounds, Karuizawa, in the Nagano Prefecture. Toyota Motor Corp. plans to add two more stations in Osaka and Nagoya by March 2025 and expand to as many as 100 stations throughout Japan by 2030.

Tesla's Supercharger and NACS in the US

The massive adoption of Tesla's NACS, a.k.a. the North American Charging Standard, saw a significant focus last year, with Ford being the first one to announce its pledge to this experience. With this, Tesla also threw in Supercharger access for companies that will adopt NACS, best known as Elon Musk's charging standard, which he wants to be the main port for all. 

Soon after, different companies began announcing their switch to NACS, leaving behind the CCS charging experience in favor of the Tesla port with the complimentary Supercharger pass. From American brands to European and Asian vehicles, many have already announced their partnership with Tesla, including Honda, Toyota, Lexus, and more. 

After a year since these announcements, there is already an eligibility rollout for brands that pledged on NACS to access Superchargers, with Ford, GM, Rivian, and more. The same experience is taking place in Japan thanks to Toyota's efforts, leveraging Lexus charging stations for all to access. The company is looking to expand more of its stations across the country, allowing more to experience it.
