The latest drop from OpenAI was the ChatGPT for Mac app, which offers a native chatbot experience on the Apple computer. This is an improvement from the web version. Certain requirements for this to be accessible, and it is not yet available on the Mac App Store, but after completing it, you will get renowned access to the app. 

ChatGPT for Mac App: How to Download and Install

To get ChatGPT for Mac, users would have to head over to OpenAI's website, which features the desktop app download for Apple computers. However, it is important to take note of its requirements first. 

First, this app is only available for M-series chips, meaning Mac computers featuring the M1 or later released in 2020. Next, users must ensure they are updated to at least macOS 14 Sonoma. 

Users only have to click  'Download' on ChatGPT's website to get the DMG file. After that, they open the file and drag the ChatGPT app icon to the Applications folder, and the installation is done. 

The next step is to open ChatGPT by looking for it in the Applications folder or Spotlight Search. Apple will ask if the user wants to open it since it was downloaded online. Click 'Open' and proceed to log in to your account.

What Features to Enjoy on ChatGPT for Mac?

ChatGPT for Mac has several key features to enjoy, one of them being the Mac shortcut , which allows users to launch the chatbot by simply pressing the "option + space bar" on the keyboard. On the app itself, users may also enjoy multimodal features like text prompts, voice message prompts, or uploading images or videos, as well as screenshots to help with their tasks. 

There is also a way to start a temporary chat that would not appear in one's history. Moreover, customizing chats and choosing which model to use are also available here.

OpenAI and Apple's Partnership

Apple and OpenAI are now known for their partnership, particularly as the companies introduced these experiences back in WWDC 2024 for Apple Intelligence, Siri, and more. However, it was not what was originally speculated by the public, as OpenAI did not create the AI that Apple will use for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but only an option for the experience. 

It is also important to note that this partnership does not constitute a payout to OpenAI from Apple, but despite this, both have continued to push through, as was announced at the event. However, this means better exposure for OpenAI as it would be an option for all the generative AI needs of an Apple user, to be suggested by Apple Intelligence and Siri. 

While ChatGPT for Mac is not yet available on the App Store, that does not mean that users will miss out on experiencing what it offers with this release.
