The announcement that the gaming world has waited for from Sony is finally here, and it confirms that the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter's release date will be coming in around two months for public availability.
After a plethora of requests from gamers to make the PS VR2 available to access on the PC, Sony heeded the pleas and created one that saw it apply for certification last week.
Sony PS VR2 PC Adapter Release Date Confirmed
Sony's PlayStation Blog confirmed the arrival of the PlayStation VR2's PC adapter. This marks a new era for the company's latest wearable, which essentially makes it a cross-platform device.
Touting its enhanced capabilities and stellar features, including eye tracking and immersive experiences, Sony is offering all of this for computers via the adapter, which is rolling out support by August 7.
Apart from this, Sony is also promising that it is working on porting the PS VR2 games to be accessible on the PC platform, but it has not yet released a list of games that will make its way to computers.
Moreover, the PS VR2's PC compatibility is only for Windows 10 and 11 64-bit versions, also requiring at least an Intel Core i5-7600 and AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or later CPUs, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or RTX series and AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later GPUs.
It also requires a DisplayPort 1.4 and USB connection to stream the game and connect the controllers.
What to Expect from PS VR2's PC Experiences
The PS VR2's PC adapter costs $59.99 in its release and will be available on PlayStation's direct website. Those who do not own a VR device yet are also required.
Gamers may also play titles purchased on the SteamVR platform, with the PlayStation VR2 app available on Steam, and both platforms are responsible for delivering the experience.
Sony's PlayStation VR and Its Legacy
The first PlayStation VR was released in 2016, and around eight years ago, it was one of the most popular virtual reality headsets available in the market.
Sony initially expected that it would be a hit. The company was not wrong about it, as it faced massive fame over time, and it proved to be one of the most advanced VR devices on the market, with this one exclusive to the PlayStation 4.
Two years later, the original PS VR saw its sales skyrocket to 3 million units, cemented its legacy in the industry and marked Sony's first successful take on virtual reality.
However, while the PS VR2 was also promising and offered massive upgrades since the first one, it saw mixed reviews from gamers as it did not provide backward compatibility and is exclusive to the PS5.
This latest update from Sony allows users to use the PS VR2 for PCs, which means that more gamers will experience what PlayStation offers in terms of VR gaming. This move could expand the platform options and allow PC gamers to possibly buy the PS VR2 for gaming, with August 7 marking its availability in the market.
