PS5 Green Screen of Death: Here's Several Fix Suggested by Redditors, iFixit

It may seem the end for your PS5, but try these first before panicking.

The PS5 is now seeing a growing issue called the "Green Screen of Death," and it is now worrying owners who were sent into panic mode after seeing this appear on their console, asking other users about what is happening. However, this is not the time to worry; several Redditors and websites have shared how to remove it, and most are easy fixes.

PS5 'Green Screen of Death' is Now Appearing For Some

A Redditor named u/jedmond12 shared on the r/Playstation forum that he has seen the "green screen of death," but in his case, it does not cover the entire display with a blank green page. Instead, it still shows the PS5 home screen, but vertical green bars have filled it.

The user explained that this only appears whenever turning on the PS5, and after the loading screen, these green bars would vanish.

In another case from 2021, the PS5's display is entirely green and blank, not showing any other logos or figures, but that was speculated to be a GPU or faulty fan issue.

How to Fix PS5's Green Screen of Death?

In u/jedmond12's case, several Redditors suggested trying a new HDMI cable and seeing if that would fix the problem. The troubleshooting suggestion said that the OP should try to 'jiggle' the HDMI connection on the console or display, and if that changes anything, the cable will malfunction.

Another user suggested plugging it into a different HDMI port on the display and seeing what happens.

Repair company iFixit has several opinions on the matter, including testing a different monitor or display to determine which is the one with a problem, turning off HDR on the display settings, and using a different HDMI port.

The PlayStation 5's Four-Year Run

Since the PS5's announcement in 2020, it has seen stellar popularity among the masses, especially as it is the latest of what Sony has to offer for its gaming console experiences for its worldwide fans. Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 5 had already entered its later life cycle, which means that it is nearing when it will be replaced, and several issues are also popping up.

There are now massive rumors about the successor of the PS5, but there are also talks about the new consoles that will be released under the namesake, similar to 2023's New PS5, also known as the PS5 Slim. Next up, rumors and leakers expect Sony to unveil the PS5 Pro, similar to the timeline of the PS4 Pro's release, coming in late 2024.

Despite being a four-year-old console, the PS5 is still as powerful as it can be, and most that own current-gen PlayStation got it later than 2024 as the chip shortage fiasco made it a scarce piece of tech for all.

However, this does not mean that it is safe from several issues, with the green screen of death plaguing some users. Try these easy fixes for now before thinking about replacing or throwing it away.
