More Nintendo Switch games are expected to drop as the Big N previously announced that it would ditch the lifecycle system of the console. This means that it might take a few months or years before we see a new handheld. However, the new report suggests that it might only take us a year to wait for the next Switch successor.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced on X that the company has plans to unveil a new gaming console within this fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
Furukawa noted that it would mark over nine years since the introduction of the Nintendo Switch, originally known as 'NX,' back in 2015.
Is this the Switch 2 or Pro that we are longing to see soon?
Will the Switch Successor Announced in Nintendo Direct?
Despite the excitement surrounding the new console, Furukawa clarified that the upcoming Nintendo Direct in June will not discuss the next-gen system, known colloquially as 'Switch 2'.
Instead, the presentation will concentrate on new software titles for the current Nintendo Switch platform, Nintendo Life reports. This early confirmation of the June Nintendo Direct is a break from tradition for the company, which typically announces such events closer to their occurrence.

Strategic Silence on 'Switch 2'
This strategic announcement comes after months of heightened speculation and rumors about the so-called 'Switch 2'. By setting clear expectations for the upcoming Nintendo Direct, Furukawa aims to temper speculations and manage fan expectations for the remainder of the year.
Continued Focus on the Current Switch
Earlier in February, Furukawa emphasized that the current Nintendo Switch would remain the company's "main business" into 2024, explicitly declining to comment on any new hardware at the time. However, details and rumors about the anticipated new console have been emerging, including speculations about innovative Joy-Con-style controllers that could attach magnetically to the console.
Nintendo's planned announcement sets the stage for an exciting development in the gaming industry, as fans eagerly await the next evolution of Nintendo's console technology.
With a new console on the horizon and a focus on enriching the existing Switch ecosystem, the Big N continues to innovate and captivate the gaming community.
Previous Switch 2 Leaks
Back in September, a leak claimed that Switch 2 could achieve the same power that PS5 has. However, up to this day, it only remained as speculation since there were no hardware updates for the upcoming console.
In late December, another leak hinted that an OLED version will be available for Switch 2. It's possible to have this model given that we get the same version for the current handheld. Still, take this with a grain of salt since Nintendo has not officially announced something about it yet.
