FIRSTGREEN Unveils Remote-Operated Electric Skid Steers to Enhance Safety in Mining Operations

With mining fatalities on the rise, FIRSTGREEN Industries steps up to address the alarming trend.

In response to a 30% increase in mining fatalities from 2022 to 2023, coupled with a continuous rise in construction fatalities, FIRSTGREEN Industries unveils a groundbreaking solution aimed at enhancing safety in critical mining operations.

Reducing Mining Deaths

FIRSTGREEN's innovative approach involves the introduction of a new line of cabinless, remote-operated skid steers specifically tailored for the demanding conditions of mining environments.

Building on the success of their first cabinless electric loader, Elise CBL, Electrek reported that FIRSTGREEN expands its offerings to cater to the unique needs of underground miners with the introduction of the ROCKEAT equipment line.

The Elise CBL, aptly named for its focus on "Clean Building Logistics," is engineered to enable fully remote operation, significantly reducing the risk of operator injuries and exposure to hazardous materials such as asbestos and radiation commonly found in high-risk demolition environments.

Moreover, its electric propulsion system eliminates diesel exhaust emissions, a known carcinogen, thereby minimizing additional health hazards faced by operators.

By extending this innovative functionality to the underground mining sector, FIRSTGREEN aims to revolutionize safety standards and mitigate the inherent risks associated with traditional mining operations.

The introduction of remote-operated electric skid steers marks a significant step forward in safeguarding the well-being of miners and ensuring a safer working environment amidst escalating safety concerns in the industry.

Marcus Suess, FIRSTGREEN Industries' Chief Operating Officer, expressed enthusiasm about introducing the ROCKEAT skid steers to the US market. He highlighted the significance of this advancement in improving safety and sustainability, particularly in industries like construction and mining.

Suess emphasized the importance of ongoing national support for expanding critical mineral mining projects, underscoring the potential to address environmental concerns while revitalizing domestic industries.

Much Bigger Lineup

The ROCKEAT skid steer lineup comprises two distinct models: the 700 and the 1200. These models differ in width, with the 700 measuring 67 inches and the 1200 measuring 71 inches.

Both variants offer flexibility in battery options, allowing users to choose between lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries based on their preferences and operational requirements.

Equipped with three 36.2 hp motors, each capable of delivering a maximum torque of 89 lb-ft, these skid steers boast impressive power. The load capacities of the two models vary, with the 700 accommodating up to 1,500 lbs. and the 1200 capable of handling loads of up to 3,300 lbs.

Charging the skid steers is convenient, as it can be done using standard 110v or 220v outlets, or by seamlessly swapping batteries during operation.

Remote operation remains the central feature in both scenarios. The ROCKEAT equipment offers users the flexibility to operate it remotely using the standard Danfoss-developed remote cabin or the FIRSTGREEN mobile app.

This dual-operating capability ensures convenience and versatility, whether the need is as simple as backing up a few feet or as urgent as a high-stakes scenario.
