Polestar EVs Gain Tesla Supercharger Access in China

Polestar will continue to expand its connections overseas with this latest venture.

As the electric vehicle (EV) market continues to evolve, Polestar (PSNY) has forged a significant partnership with Tesla, enabling Polestar EV owners to utilize Tesla's Supercharger network in China.

The collaboration is joining a growing trend among automakers seeking to leverage existing charging infrastructure to enhance the EV ownership experience.

Access to Tesla Superchargers

Polestar EVs in China now have seamless access to Tesla's Supercharger network, following an official announcement by Polestar on its Weibo page. Earlier, it was Ford which was granted access to the Superchargers via J3400 connectors.

Through a simple process via the Polestar app, EV owners can locate and utilize Tesla Superchargers across mainland China, further simplifying the charging process and enhancing convenience for Polestar customers.

Expansion of Polestar Lineup

The integration of Tesla's Supercharger network coincides with Polestar's strategic expansion efforts, Electrek reports.

With the recent commencement of Polestar 3 production in China, the company continues to bolster its lineup, which already includes the Polestar 2 and Polestar 4. The Polestar 3, set to be produced on two continents, marks a significant milestone for the company.

Polestar 3: A Dual-Continent Endeavor

Polestar's electric SUV, the Polestar 3, represents the peak of engineering and design, now available for purchase in the US market. Built upon the same platform as the Volvo EX90, the Polestar 3 offers a compelling blend of performance and sustainability.

Available in both Long Range and Long Range Performance variants, this EV boasts a dual-motor powertrain capable of delivering impressive performance and range.

"This stunning car takes a significant step forward with the start of production marking an important milestone on our journey from a one to three car company," CEO Thomas Ingenlath said last month.

Volvo CEO is Confident About Polestar's Path

As Polestar continues to solidify its position in the EV market, Volvo CEO Jim Rowan expressed confidence in the company's trajectory, emphasizing Polestar's strengthened business plan and the launch of new models like the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.

With Geely's unwavering support and commitment, Polestar is poised for sustained growth and innovation, reaffirming its status as a frontrunner in the global EV sector.

Polestar Counters Lackluster Demand With Price Cuts

A week ago, Reuters reported that the Swedish EV maker was embracing a plan to counter the declining demand for its cars. It turns out that to do that, Polestar needs to cut Polestar 3's base price by over 12%.

From the original starting price of $83,000, the company decreased the starting price for Polestar 3 EVs to $73,400. In the process, it further expanded the current lineup to four variants, adding two new models.

It is expected that the Polestar 3 models will be shipped starting in the second quarter of 2024.
