iOS 17 Bug Causes App Switcher to Accidentally Appear While Typing: Here's How to Fix It

If you have been experiencing this iOS 17, here's a quick way to address it.

An increasing number of iPhone users have encountered a persistent iOS 17 bug, disrupting their typing experience as the app switcher unexpectedly takes over.

If you've fallen victim to this frustrating glitch, there's a simple process on how to fix this problem.

As of Dec. 5, many iPhone users are complaining that whenever they type something on the screen, the app switches suddenly. You are not alone with this iOS 17 bug and here's how to solve this issue. William Hook from Unsplash

Numerous reports on Apple Community forums and Reddit echo the same narrative - users abruptly find themselves kicked out of Messages, Notes, and other applications mid-sentence, landing in an unintended app due to the sudden appearance of the app switcher.

Observing the bug in action, it becomes apparent that it's challenging to replicate consistently, according to MacRumors. However, affected users note a pattern: the bug tends to strike when they've been typing swiftly on the virtual keyboard for an extended period.

This issue persists across all versions of ‌iOS 17 ‌, including the latest update, iOS 17.1.2. Some users even report encountering the bug on replacement devices, hinting at Apple's potential lack of awareness regarding the problem.

How to Fix iOS 17 Bug Temporarily

While awaiting Apple's resolution, a temporary fix, or rather a workaround, exists. It involves disabling Reachability, an optional feature designed to bring the top half of the screen within easy reach of your fingers. Though users may miss this functionality, it proves effective in halting the typing bug for all affected individuals.

Here's a step-by-step guide to turning off Reachability:

  1. Open Settings on your ‌iPhone‌.

  2. Tap Accessibility.

  3. Under "Physical and Motor," select Touch.

  4. Turn off the switch next to Reachability.

By disabling Reachability, users can mitigate the typing bug, indicating a potential sensitivity issue linked to this accessibility feature. Until Apple addresses this concern, this workaround stands as a practical solution for affected iPhone users.

Other iOS 17 Bugs and How to Fix Them

Aside from the app switcher which appears out of nowhere on iPhones, other iOS 17 glitches previously bugged the users.

Ultfone reported that one of them was the iOS 17 bug that made the downloads get stuck. To solve this, make sure you have a stable internet connection. From here, force-quit the Settings app then restart your smartphone. The last thing to do is to reset the network settings.

Another iOS 17 is the one that involved the "phone bricked or freezing." It happens when your device stops working after updating it to the latest OS.

To fix this problem, first verify if your iPhone is compatible with iOS 17. After that, force restart your device.

For those experiencing sudden battery drain on iOS 17, you're not alone. This annoying issue also happens in iOS 17.0.1, iOS 17.0.2 and iOS 17.0.3.

To mitigate the battery drain glitch, you need to optimize your battery usage. You can do this by disabling any app or reducing your phone's brightness.

On top of that, you also need to disable any system services that slow down your iPhone.

Back in October, the iOS 17.1 beta 2 search bug made the life of iPhone 15 users uncomfortable. The pesky glitch limited the search results and it only showed the most recent messages on the Messages app.
