Developer Techland's first-person zombie survival title Dying Light is finally out in the wild.
While running for their life from parkour zombies, one player may have discovered a clever reference to a zombie game of an entirely different sort -- Valve's Half-Life 2.
The image in question comes from AdverseMussel on Reddit, who poses the question as to whether or not this particular area in the game may have been inspired by Half-Life 2, released way back in 2004. See for yourself.
Here is a similar image from Half-Life 2, for reference.
What do you think? The image is definitely reminiscent of portions from Half-Life 2, specifically Ravenholm. It is in Ravenholm where players first get to take their newly acquired gravity gun for a spin. The weapon allows players to pick up objects from the environment and use them as weapons, turning toilets and crates into deadly projectiles. One of the most lethal items in the area are saw blades, which can be used to sever headcrab zombies clean in two.
At first glance the screen from Dying Light could easily be mistaken for Half-Life 2, if you ignored the pipe and the mini-map. Was Techland making an intentional reference to one of Half-Life 2's most memorable areas, or were they simply cutting a zombie in half with a saw blade for the fun of it? Hard to say, but if you look closely at one of the pools of blood and put on your tin foil hat, you can see what almost looks like the Lamda logo, which has long represented the Half-Life franchise.
Half-Life 3 confirmed?
