"Multiple millions" of Steam Deck handheld consoles were sold in the world, offering the portable gaming PC experience as the first to do so in the market with significant success.

According to The Verge, Valve designers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais claimed that the original Steam Deck console saw "multiple millions" units sold by the company. Since it was released for pre-order in 2021 until now, the Steam Deck has a significant success in the market, centering on the massive patronage from gamers who purchased it from the company.

It was only in February last year that Valve saw the wide availability of the Steam Deck, with its base model featuring the 64 GB storage option offered for $399.99.

The Steam Deck saw mixed reviews, but it was mostly positive for the handheld console, with minor issues claimed by reviews that people can live with.

Steam Deck OLED is Coming with Improvements

With the initial success of the original Steam Deck, Valve recently announced the availability of the Steam Deck OLED later this month, the revamped version of the portable console that offers improvements since its last release. This is now making waves in the tech and gaming industry, particularly with its better screen, faster WiFi 6E, 30 to 50 percent better battery, and lighter body, all for $549.99.

The Iconic Valve Steam Deck Console

The Steam Deck was announced in 2021 and preorders were also opened during this time, but it was only delivered to gamers by February 2022 as the company's production saw some challenges along the way. Still, the device was an iconic one, and many gamers praised its performance and capabilities, with only minor issues manifesting in its early days, something that Valve looked to fix.

Performance-wise, there are massive pros for the Steam Deck in various reviews and ones from different gaming content creators, but it was not perfect. Its battery life is not that notable, but it is not poor unlike the supposed Steam Deck killer, the ASUS ROG Ally, with additional complaints to its stock storage capacity for its lower-tier models.

Still, it presents a highly accessible feature for all in different gaming modes like using Windows OS to port the games or via cloud gaming services.

The time has come for Valve to bring another version of the Steam Deck, now offering a better screen with OLED and an improved performance, alongside its better power efficiency by as much as 50 percent. The original Steam Deck remains an icon for Valve, a device that became a massive hit during its heyday, garnering millions of sold units around the world.
