Finally, after almost three years since Apple released the AirPods Max back in December 2020, there are claims that the company will release an updated version come next year for the wearable device. According to the report, this release would center on Apple's change to USB-C, with the AirPods Max no longer featuring the Lightning ports, similar to the new iPhone and the latest AirPods Pro 2.
USB-C is no longer the future for Apple, but is already present for its devices, with more expected to change to the universal connection port.
Apple AirPods Max with USB-C Coming Next Year
Mark Gurman revealed the latest update to the AirPods Max via his Power On Newsletter via Bloomberg, where he claims that the next AirPods to see an update would be the AirPods Max, coming soon with a USB-C port. It is important to note that the AirPods Max remains what it is since it was launched in late 2020, with Apple prioritizing other AirPods variants with new updates.
The AirPods Max is the company's take on expanding more of its audio portfolio, apart from the in-ear wearables that made the AirPods lineup famous.
It was previously speculated that Apple's change to the new AirPods Max would bring various features like its new chip, alongside additional color options.
What Will Change on New AirPods Max?
In Gurman's report, he claimed that not much will change with the AirPods Max update for 2024, and this means that it will not feature a new chip, remaining with the H1, unlike the latest AirPods Pro 2. However, it was also said that Apple's plans may change in the future, and take users on a wild ride to bring new developments for the wearable, but will depend on their decisions.
Apple's USB-C Change
Back in the recent Apple event called 'Wonderlust,' the Cupertino giant unveiled the new USB-C-equipped smartphone, the iPhone 15, but that is not the only adoption of the universal charging port for its products. Another notable release here is Apple's AirPods Pro 2 refresh which brings the USB-C charging case to the public and allows better adoption for its users.
However, this is not the only music-listening device from Cupertino that got a USB-C swap, also its wired headphones, the EarPods, come in with a direct connection for the new ports. This means that users no longer have to use a 3.5mm AUX to USB-C jack or a Lightning to USB-C jack for the wired earphones from the company for all which already equips the universal port.
With the recent changes to USB-C present on Apple's latest products, it is expected that more devices that will launch in the future will also see adoption, with many waiting on specific names on Cupertino's list. One of which is the renowned over-the-ear headphones, the AirPods Max, but the sad thing is, there would be no other changes to it, apart from the USB-C.
