Arguably the most popular SUV from Mercedes-Benz is the luxury G-Wagon, and for a long time, it is known as a large vehicle but that is soon to change thanks to new reports and a teaser from the company for its future revamp. This change would take on the G-Wagon platform of the company and make it a smaller, more compact vehicle, and soon-to-be a clean energy car.
The iconic G-Wagon has been the symbol of fame and power, something which the hip-hop scene has also celebrated and written songs about, soon to get a fresh upgrade.
Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon: Smaller, More Compact, and Electric
According to Automobilwoche's report, Mercedes-Benz has been planning to bring a smaller and more compact version of the G-Class SUV to the world, better known as the G-Wagon. For a long time, the German automobile company has been planning this for years, and instead of the iconic "G-Class" name, it will purposely be named the "g-Class" with the smallcase.
This is because this electric G-Wagon will be the "daughter or son of the big G."
The small G-Class EV will be more fun to drive, considering that its body and chassis will see a smaller size, one that would change how people perceive the G-Wagon entirely.
According to Engadget, Mercedes-Benz's CEO Ola Kallenius has also teased this vehicle at the recent IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, calling it the "baby" G-Class EV.
The High-End Luxury SUV is Going Electric
The details are still scarce on the G-Class's refreshed look meant for its electric counterpart, but seeing as it was already teased and there are plans for it in a long time, it is likely coming soon. Speculations claim that this EV will be a spinoff from the G-Class EQG concept that was unveiled in 2021, with its release date coming on or after 2026.
Mercedes-Benz's Electrification
Mercedes-Benz is massive on going electric, and the company has delivered futuristic-looking electric vehicles already, with it pledging an all-electric fleet by 2030, with conditions. Different EV models have arrived from the famed German luxury car manufacturer, each with unique offerings with the EQS featuring a 56-inch digital speedometer it calls the "Hyperscreen."
There was also an electric SUV that arrived from Mercedes-Benz, with the 2023 EQB, and its most iconic feature being its selling price which is claimed to be cheaper than Tesla's Model Y SUV. The electric SUV starts at the price of $56,800, already promising an affordable entry-level German luxury car, one that promises clean energy for the world and arrives in the country during the Summer.
Now, an icon of Mercedes-Benz's lineup is getting an electric swap, while still carrying the famed namesake of its iconic SUV platform, the G-Class which was initially introduced in 1979. While it is swapping out its twin-turbocharged V-8 engines for batteries, its body is also getting smaller and more compact, but still has the G-Wagon in its DNA, as Benz's luxury SUV.
