A new electric vehicle was recently unveiled by Acura, a known luxury division of the renowned Japanese automaker, Honda, but the new ZDX is different, as it uses the GM Ultium platform for its power. The Acura ZDX is a collaboration by Honda and General Motors to bring its battery and architecture to Acura vehicles, being the first of this partnership.
One of the striking features of the ZDX is how it looks similar to another General Motors vehicle that will also come soon in the future.
Acura ZDX Uses GM's Ultium with 325 Miles of Range
Acura's ZDX gets reborn as an electric vehicle, and not just any EV, as it takes on the renowned General Motors' Ultium platform for its battery technology. This marks the first all-electric vehicle from Acura, centering on the 2024 ZDX that will bring an electric SUV to the world, revamping the namesake that has been around for years.
One of the most iconic features here is the GM Ultium batteries that will power the vehicle, one that is capable to deliver 325 miles of range on a single charge.
"The arrival of the new ZDX is an exciting moment for the Acura brand," said Emile Korkor, Assistant Vice President of Acura National Sales via its press release. "It signals our transition to a zero-emissions future and demonstrates our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in the electrified era."
It features two variants, namely the Acura ZDX (base model starting at $60,000) and the ZDX Type S (base model starting at $70,000).

The New ZDX Also Uses the Lyriq's Architecture
Apart from the Ultium and GM manufacturing, the ZDX also features another trait from General Motors and this is its architecture. More specifically, one that it shares with a fellow crossover EV, the Cadillac Lyriq.
The ZDX A-Spec features options that offer a Single and Dual Motor electric drivetrain, with the Single bringing 340 horsepower, and the ZDX Type S bringing an impressive 500 horsepower.
However, the downside with the Type S variant centers on its less estimated EPA range that can only bring 288 miles on a single charge.
Acura's Development and GM's Ultium
Back in 2021, there was an announcement from Honda and General Motors which announced a long-term partnership between both companies to develop its EVs and manufacture here in the US. This will center on Acura's EVs that will see its development in Mexico and Tennessee, with GM heading the production and 2023 being its target year.
So far, it has been accurate in terms of unveiling the new EV coming soon, centering on the ZDX which is a known line from the Japanese company.
In the years that GM has revealed the latest technologies and developments from their EV focus, one of the most iconic things here is its Ultium platform that delivers high-power capacity and capabilities from its batteries.
Now, this said the partnership has bore fruit and its unveiling was right on schedule from its initial announcement of the collaboration to bring the initial Acura EVs. GM's Ultium and Lyriq's shared platform brings the Acura ZDX to life, an electric crossover that packs significant features and tech, bearing the Japanese luxury brand's entry into the EV industry.
