Acura's first-ever electric vehicle (EV) gives the ZDX a long-awaited comeback, giving it an electrified SUV resurrection, flaunting a new Type S variant.
The renowned premium performance automaker, Acura, is working with the American carmaker, General Motors, in its plan to revive one of its staple nameplates as it debuts in the emerging EV market.
Acura First EV: ZDX with Type S Variant
As per the recent news story by CNET, the luxury division of Honda, Acura, has finally confirmed its first-ever EV offering, which the automaker teased would hit the roads sometime in 2024.
The first EV of Acura carries a familiar name, which the automaker discontinued several years ago, none other than the ZDX.
But this time, the Japanese automaker is giving the first letter of ZDX a new meaning, which suits its electrification. Acura says that the "Z" now stands for "zero-emissions."
The assistant vice president (VP) for sales of Acura, Emile Korkor, admits to CNET that they did not initially plan the upcoming EV offering to be a resurrected of an almost forgotten iconic name.
The Acura assistant VP for sales says that "when we imagined this vehicle, we didn't think of it as a continuation of one model line into the next."
Korkor further shares that "the fact that it starts with a 'Z' is just kind of perfect."
Acura ZDX
CNET reports that Acura left behind the ZDX name way back in 2013, but after nearly a decade after the automaker teases its massive comeback.
The first iteration of the Acura ZDX debuted long ago in 2009 as a fuel-powered SUV.
According to the latest report by The Drive, the first-ever ZDX was the first-ever vehicle made by the then newly-opened Acura Design Studio.
This time, the same nameplate emerges as the first-ever all-electric offering of the Japanese luxury car maker.
But what can we expect from the resurrection of ZDX?

Electric ZDX: What to Expect?
The automaker discloses that its upcoming electric car shares that same EV architecture, which also powers the Honda Prologue.
Meanwhile, the ZDX is going to use the Ultium battery technology of GM, as Acura is co-developing its first EV with the American automaker.
While Acura only gave scant details about its upcoming EV, it teased that it would come in the Type S variant.
And on top of that, the luxury car maker also reveals that it is "coming to market in 2024."
So if Acura does not experience any hiccups, its first-ever EV SUV might get the shimmer of spotlight in roughly the next two years.
