Microsoft Is Bringing ‘Play Together’ to Teams, Connecting Gamers With Friends

Hate using Discord for your gaming needs? Try Microsoft's Play Together in Teams.

The Microsoft Teams Play Together companion app is now accessible in Microsoft Store, the company confirms. With this tool, you can now elevate your gaming experience by playing games with your friends.

If you're a Discord user and you're looking for a replacement for it, maybe it's about time to test it in its early stages.

As MSPoweruser reports, gamers can now take advantage of the Microsoft Teams Play Together to hang out with their friends and watch games real-time.

Of course, there are minimal requirements you need to remember before you use the app. You need at least a Windows 10 v.17763.0 or higher. It doesn't matter if it's x86 or x64 as long as you meet the required OS.

Playing in on your Windows 11 PC might be much better but there might be only slight differences you might notice.

"Xbox Game Bar and Microsoft Teams (free) partnered together so you and your friends have a place to hang out while watching and playing games. You'll have to create or sign into your personal Microsoft account to get the Teams Play Together widget. Screenshare your gameplay via Teams while playing on a Windows 11 PC, and keep the conversation going with video calls which you'll see via the Game Bar's video overlay," the app's description reads.

Basically, what Microsoft aims to achieve here is uniting the gamers with their comrades via the Teams app. It's not a merely Discord replacement, but just another option that players can use to communicate in-game.

Microsoft Teams Play Together is Easy to Set Up

The new Xbox Game Bar integration could be the Redmond firm's gaming solution to those who need to part ways with Teams during gaming sessions.

With the "Play Together" app that pre-installed on Windows 11, you can just sign in right away if you have a Microsoft Account.

On top of that, sharing your gameplay on Microsoft Teams is just a cakewalk. It also works on voice chat and video by simply tapping Windows Key and G.

According to XDA Developers, you will see that on top of the game you're playing, there'a a video feed overlay of your friends.

What's more, you can create a link and share it with your online buddies so they can join your game. The call can only accommodate up to 20 friends at the time.

When you visit Microsoft Store, the Teams Play Together widget is powered with just one rating which means that its setup is a breeze. You don't have to worry about multiple sign-ups just to access the app.

Not too long ago, the company was seen testing the Edge for Gamers, a special gaming mode for Edge browser users.

Just this week, the Microsoft Teams welcomed new upgrades on its iOS and Android platforms. The changes include easier account switching, faster meeting process, and more.
