Meta Reboots Horizon Worlds with New In-House Studio Called 'Ouro Interactive': Metaverse to Get Overhaul?

Find out more about Meta's reboot of Horizon Worlds.

Meta has already lost over billions over its plan to dominate the metaverse and while its Horizon World's might not have been able to pick up, the company is planning a complete overhaul with a new in-house studio. The new studio will be called Ouro Interactive and is expected to focus on creating first-party VR games for its Horizon Worlds.

Meta is Overhauling Its Metaverse Horizon Worlds Virtual Reality App by Adding New Games

According to the story by CNBC, Meta is overhauling its metaverse, the Horizon Worlds virtual reality app by adding new video games to the platform. This comes as the social platform is finding difficulty in being able to reach a larger audience.

It was noted that Horizon Worlds remains the company's free virtual reality social network which would allow users to create avatars and interact with each other. As the company tries to make its metaverse more compelling, Meta has decided to add an in-house studio called Ouro Interactive.

The new studio is tasked with focusing on creating first-party virtual reality games for the platform. Vishal Shah, Meta's Vice President of Metaverse, gave a statement in the Lowpass technology newsletter regarding their new plans.

The Studio Launched Its Very First VR Game Called Super Rumble

It was noted that Super Rumble, the studio's very first VR game, had also recently launched and it had better graphics and fidelity compared to other games that were built on top of Meta's very own Horizon Worlds. With that, the video game is also expected to be one of the first VR video games the company wants to test upon the eventual debut of the Horizon Worlds mobile version.

Shah also noted that the game was more than just a new world and that it was actually the next generation for its metaverse, Horizon Worlds. Shah then noted that users should expect more video games to debut as Meta is starting to build what was described as the "new Horizon Worlds."

Meta has also invested in revamping its VR platform's infrastructure in order to be able to support higher-quality as well as more complex games while being able to provide additional tools for third-party developers.

The Company is Shifting Its Approach to the Metaverse as It Lost $21 Billion Since the Start of 2022

Shah noted that they want to offer more compelling content as more consumers "come to Horizon." To do this, it was highlighted that they needed to seed the ecosystem through bootstrapping it with different things that they build in-house.

The Vice President of Metaverse also shared the company's new approach, saying they would transition from being "VR only" to "VR first." This comes as the company has already lost billions on its virtual and augmented reality division, Reality Labs.

According to Complex, the company's VR/AR division, Reality Labs, has lost them $21 billion since the start of 2022. Meta also expects their losses to continue while they get more involved with this technology.
