'Mortal Kombat 1' Director Says the Game Will Receive 'Longer' Post-Launch Support

"Mortal Kombat 1" will reportedly get additional support for a "longer" period of time.

The game director of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, has revealed how "Mortal Kombat 1" would get new content and updates, including additional support. Boon noted that the game would get support for a more extended period of time than the "Mortal Kombat 11" game.

'Mortal Kombat 1' Expected to Get Additional Support Unlike MK11 With More Upgrades and Content Expected

According to Comic Book, following the game's launch in 2019, NeatherRealm Studio came up with new characters and sizable expansions to the "Mortal Kombat 11."

It eventually wrapped up in 2021. However, with the MK1 around, Boon noted that NeatherRealm wants to continue supporting the game until 2025 or beyond.

'Mortal Kombat 1' Game Director Ed Boon Says the Game is Getting More Support From the Studio

The conversation came during the Comic-Con in San Diego, with Comic Book asking Ed Boon how fast fans can expect support for "Mortal Kombat 1," which is expected to be released in September.

The game director said, at the minimum, the studio is expected to provide two years of post-release support in a similar way it did with "Mortal Kombat 11." The report further noted that "Mortal Kombat 1" could get new content for an even longer period. However, no specific timetables have been given.

NetherRealm to Drop New MK1 Kombat Pack DLC

When it comes to additional characters, NeatherRealm also recently confirmed that "Mortal Kombat 1" will have six upcoming DLC characters that will be included in the Kombat Pack 1.

It was reported that the six fighters that would be featured in this add-on would be Ermac, Takeda, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Omni Man, and Homelander. So far, the studio has yet to release a definite release window for when the upcoming DLC characters will come.

New Characters Include Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni-Man

Comic Book reported that they expect more details about the DLC to be released soon. According to The Verge, many people are excited to find out what the fatalities of Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker would look like.

Fans can look at a video uploaded to Twitter, which shows the players they can expect to appear in in the upcoming MK1's Kombat Pack Roster. The video shows the characters' appearance but doesn't reveal how their fatalities would play out.

Polygon reported that while it comes with many interesting characters, the pack does not include a highly anticipated alternate Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage.

Since the video game franchise is close to his heart, "Invincible" creator Robert Kirkman told Polygon that he had been "backchanneling" Boon for years to potentially get one of his creations in a "Mortal Kombat" game.

The Kombat Pack of "Mortal Kombat 1" is reportedly included in the game's premium and collector's edition versions, which will be launched this September.
