Samsung is now sharing its targets regarding its foldable phone sales for this year. The company hopes to sell a whopping 15 million foldable devices within that span of time.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2019 Marked a New Expansion Into the Foldable Smartphone Market
Samsung initially launched its new Galaxy Fold in 2019, marking a new expansion into the foldable smartphone market with high-end solutions. Since then, the company has already released some other foldable models.
According to the story by Giz China, the other models that Samsung is releasing include the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold5, as expanded in an article by It Home, its newer foldable models. The release of foldable models is an addition and did not replace Samsung's Galaxy S23 series.
Samsung Got 80% of All Foldable Smartphone Sales in 2022
In March, Notebookcheck.com revealed that Samsung got 80% of all foldable smartphone sales in 2022. As for the company's new target of selling 15 million units in 2023 is not far from its previous unit sales in 2021, when it was able to sell close to 10 million folding phones.
The company's 2021 numbers represent a 300% increase compared to its foldable phone sales in 2020. Due to the increase in popularity of foldable phones and other companies trying to enter the market, Samsung is targeting to sell 15 million foldable phones this year.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip Saw Double Sales from 2021 to 2022
The article by Giz China notes that Samsung has seen significant adoption when it comes to the use of foldable smartphones. This wasn't just true for regular consumers and enterprise demand as it saw the latter double.
So far, regarding enterprise use, Samsung has seen sales of both the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip double year-over-year. From January 2022 to October of the same year, Samsung saw a 105% increase in foldable smartphones contracted for enterprise customers compared to the same period in 2021.
With the addition of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Z Flip4, Samsung remained innovating even within the foldable smartphone market. Both models were reportedly designed to become more flexible and give users a better way to work.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip4
The Galaxy Z Fold4 reportedly turns into a tablet with a screen that expands to 7.6 inches, which would allow its users to do more. Regarding the Galaxy Z Flip4, the clamshell style made it more compact for users to carry around.
It was also highlighted how the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 reportedly came with 5G compatibility and a range of features designed to help boost productivity. This comes as the company plans to dominate the foldable market for the years to come and be able to sell 15 million foldable units this year.
Should Samsung sell its 15 million foldable units this year, this would be around a 50% increase from the number of foldable units sold in 2021.
