The Tesla Model Y BYD battery integration seems like doing its thing after some owners discovered that it leads to faster charging.
Before, Tesla and BYD were not really on good terms, especially since the Chinese battery maker is considered to be a competitor.
Elon Musk even made fun of BYD's electric cars, as reported by Electrek.
Surprisingly, these two manufacturers decided to collaborate.
Although Tesla didn't confirm that it is working with BYD, numerous filings leaked indicated that there's really a partnership between the EV maker and the Chinese battery maker.
Tesla Model Y BYD Battery Integration
Previously, it was confirmed that Tesla already began manufacturing Tesla Model Y units with BYD batteries in Germany.
These EVs are being produced in the Tesla Giga Berlin. Now, some German Tesla fans are already experiencing the benefits offered by the BYD battery integrations in Model Ys.
They shared the details via the German TFF forum. Based on their statements, Tesla Model Ys with BYD batteries have faster charging sessions compared to other models.
Specifically, the BYD batteries can maintain 170 kW through 50% SOC (state-of-charge). The EV batteries can also maintain 100 kW at 70% SOC.
With these details, it was concluded that Tesla Model Y with BYD batteries can reach 80% battery power in less than 30 minutes.
Why It Leads To Faster Charging?
As of writing, it is still unclear why BYD batteries in the Tesla Model Y units are performing better than CATL batteries.
However, tech enthusiasts explained that many factors could possible affect this increased charging performance.
These include temperature and the EV chargers used.
