Tinder, the renowned dating app, has unveiled a new, AI-powered Photo Verification process that includes selfie videos to improve the member experience and help authenticate user profiles.
The update also allows Photo Verified members to request that their matches complete the verification process before initiating conversation, giving them more control over who they interact with.
These members can further opt to receive messages exclusively from other Photo Verified members within their Message Settings.
Valuable Safety Feature
According to Rory Kozoll, SVP of Product Integrity at Tinder, the dating app's members have consistently cited photo verification as one of the most valuable safety features.
Photo Verification gives members another way to assess the authenticity of their match, with those aged 18 to 25 and Photo Verified having a 10% higher chance of matching.
Kozoll notes that Tinder will prioritize these methods to create a safer space to meet new people.
"Tinder members value authenticity and genuine connection. Nearly 40% of all members have received their Photo Verified blue checkmark2," the dating app wrote in a blog post.
"In early tests, more men have been likely to complete Photo Verification through the introduction of video selfies. Knowing this, Tinder will now prompt all new members to Photo Verify when they create a profile, putting this up-leveled process front and center.

Photo Verified Users Only Feature
Previously, members would take still photos while holding static poses, which were compared against others on their profiles. With the new process, members must complete a series of video prompts to receive a blue checkmark.
Tinder provides its members with tools that give them control over their online dating experience. Members can choose with whom they interact, and those who select "Photo Verified Chat" in their Message Settings will receive messages exclusively from other Photo Verified members.
Before starting a conversation, they can also ask their matches to verify their photos. Additionally, Tinder Gold members can filter their "Likes" for Photo Verified members only.
In the coming months, Tinder will ask all members to update to the latest version of Photo Verification, including the video selfie feature, to ensure that users' verified photos are up-to-date.
The video selfie feature is available globally now, and the ability to select "Photo Verified Members" only in Message Settings will be available in the coming months.
Photo Verification is free for anyone who wants to become a Photo Verified member of the app, as Tinder expects all its members to be genuine and represent themselves authentically.
