"As lithium-ion batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in shorter amounts of time before a device needs to be recharged," explained the gadget maker.
Apple added that the ability of lithium-ion batteries to deliver peak power would inevitably decrease over time. Due to this characteristic of iPhone batteries, the performance of iOS smartphones is also affected.
Apple stated that gadgets need to draw upon instantaneous power from the battery to function effectively. But, since lithium-ion battery capacities decrease as smartphones get older, the capability of devices to acquire power will also decrease.
Apple explained that most iPhone models would have around 80% battery capacity after 500 charge cycles.
