The Nintendo eShop credit reimbursement isn't for everyone... for now.

The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS finally ended on March 28, 2023. While players could no longer buy digital games from the virtual store, they could get their unused credit as a refund.

For those gamers who won't be able to transfer their remaining balance from Wii U/3DS eShop to the Nintendo Switch, there's apparently a compensation that you might find satisfying.

According to a report by Nintendo Life, the company is offering reimbursement for gamers who want to get their credit from the eShop. However, this is only exclusive to players who live in Japan. It's not yet announced if gamers from other regions will receive the same treatment.

The Japanese website of Nintendo says that by connecting your unused balance to your current Nintendo account, you can start to buy DLC and even utilize tickets that you might later use for Nintendo Switch.

The feature also applies when you attempt to purchase products from My Nintendo Store. It will be effective from April 6 to March 2025. After the said date, you can no longer do this trick if you wish to re-use your 3DS and Wii U eShop credit.

2 Ways to Refund Your Unused eShop Credit

Nintendo notes that there are two methods to refund your balance if you haven't used the remaining credit on your account.

The first method is by transferring to the bank account that a customer specifies. The second method is getting cash at a convenience store like the Lawson store.

The requirements before getting a refund are easy to accomplish. All you need is a working smartphone or PC and, of course, a Nintendo Wii U or 3DS console registered with Nintendo Network ID.

Time is running out, and you have to do this as early as possible because you might forget this soon, especially if you're focused on Switch gaming.

For now, you can fill out this Application form to get started. Just check the details, and don't forget to skip any information required in the form.

Meanwhile, Gamerant reported last month that someone had purchased every Wii U and 3DS eShop game before the digital store permanently shut down for good.

According to the article, Jirard Khalil, a Twitch streamer better known as The Completionist, managed to get 1,547 3DS games and 866 Wii U titles which consumed almost 1.5 TB of data in total.

The Nintendo Switch eShop Spring Sale is ongoing, per TechTimes. You have until April 16 to buy discounted Shmup titles.
