Apple just released iOS 16.4, its latest software update, which adds a number of new features to iPhones. In case you missed it, here is a rundown of the biggest features in the updates.
iPhone Call Voice Isolation
One such feature is the Voice Isolation option, now available during phone calls. Previously, this feature was only available on FaceTime calls following the release of iOS 15 in 2021.
The Voice Isolation feature, which is designed to reduce the amount of background noise picked up by the microphone during phone calls, is handy for those who work from home, live in noisy areas, or simply want better call quality.
When enabled, the feature muffles distracting background noises like barking dogs or construction sounds, allowing for uninterrupted conversations.
Enable Voice Isolation
Enabling Voice Isolation is a simple process that can be initiated during a call. Users can enable Voice Isolation by swiping down from the top-right corner of their iPhone screen to access the Control Center and selecting the Mic Mode option.
Once enabled, the feature will be active for all future phone calls until deactivated. Users can also call themselves and follow the same steps to activate the feature.
Users should be aware that the Voice Isolation feature is unavailable in the Settings option and must be activated during a call. To disable Voice Isolation, users can follow the same steps and tap on the Standard option in the Mic Mode settings, which will revert the microphone back to its default setting.
Wide Spectrum
CNET reports that, in addition to Voice Isolation, iOS 16.4 includes the Wide Spectrum option, which amplifies background sounds without affecting the user's voice.
This feature is especially useful for conference calls or when several people are on the same phone line. However, for the time being, it is only available on FaceTime calls and not phone calls.
Take Note
Apple's Voice Isolation feature uses advanced technology to isolate the user's voice and reduce background noise during phone calls.
Although the feature may not be perfect in all situations, it should significantly reduce background noise and improve call quality. The feature may not be able to entirely eliminate background noise, especially if it is persistent or loud.
All in all, the Voice Isolation feature is a valuable addition to iOS 16.4, and it's incredibly user-friendly. With many individuals working from home and attending phone calls in noisy environments, the feature is an excellent way to ensure better call quality and uninterrupted conversations.
Latest from Apple
Users of the iOS 16.5 beta program now have access to a new feature from Apple and Siri, the iPhone's AI-powered voice assistant: the ability to ask Siri to record their screen.
When a user asks Siri to record their screen, the feature is activated, and a three-second countdown begins before it performs the action the user has requested.
