ChatGPT has been accused of being racist by an entrepreneur.
A writer for Medium, AliB, claimed that he just exposed the racist side of the popular AI-powered chatbot of OpenAI. He published a blog post explaining his negative experience with the artificial intelligence model.
"I decided to try out Chat GPT for an entire month to reach my own conclusion about the future of AI and how it might impact our lives," said AliB, a former pharmacologist.
He added that he discovered something disturbing after trying the "mind-boggling tool."
ChatGPT Accused of Being Racist
In AliB's official Medium blog post, he said that he created a Twitter account under the name "SatoshiSwole"; a name suggested by ChatGPT.
His account's purpose is to post tweets that are 100% AI-generated. AliB stated that his Twitter account focuses on crypto fundamentals and bitcoin trading.
Since his account is supposed to look like it's owned by a Chinese crypto expert, he asked ChatGPT to re-write one of his recent tweets Chinese style, but in the English language.
AliB was shocked to see the result as the tweet that ChatGPT wrote sounded racist.
The entrepreneur provided a screenshot of the ChatGPT-written tweet. Here's what the photo contains:
"Bitcoeen mining difficultee and hashlate breaking lecolds, but with each block producing fewel BTC ovel time, it's set to become scalcely than gold by 2025. Will we see less BTC mined than gold? Only time will tell. #BitcoeenMining #LimitedSupply #GoldComparison"
Aside from the Chinese-style tweet, AliB also asked ChatGPT to write other Twitter posts in Arabic and Malaysian styles.
Both of the results were also quite racist. You can click here to see the actual screenshots.
Are AI Models Really Racist?
Via CNN Politics, Reid Blackman, the digital ethical risk consultancy Virtue's CEO, explained that AI's racism issue comes from the examples provided by people.
He stated that AI models are just software. Blackman added that if people provide examples that contain biases or discriminatory attitudes, then these software tools will also provide similar outputs.
