Google Calendar might soon allow users to create custom birthday reminders using its Android app.
The app might just be more useful once the new feature readily rolls out to its users.
Google Calendar Custom Birthday Reminders
As per a report by Android Police, Google Calendar lets users save the birthdays of their contacts, as well as other noteworthy events, such as anniversaries. It sure is a handy feature as it is quite tedious to remember the birthdays of all our friends and acquaintances.
However, there is a catch. The calendar app only reminds us of someone's birthday or a special event on the day itself. And with that, we can no longer prepare for it beforehand. Unless you religiously check it out.
But this time, it looks like Google is working on a new feature that allows Calendar users to set up custom reminders. It should give them an option for the app to notify them a few days before the birthday or event comes.
A Twitter user, who goes by the username AssembleDebug, spotted the custom reminder feature. He shares a screenshot of the new option of the Calendar app on Android, wherein a popup shows up asking users to "Add a birthday." It further explains that this should help users "get reminders for the birthday of people you care about."
How to Create Custom Birthday Reminders
Google Calendar is now testing a feature that allows users to set reminders for birthdays right before the day comes. For instance, they could customize the notification, letting them set it a day before the event.
To create a custom birthday reminder on Google Calendar, they will have to add a birthday to the feature. And from there, they could set the date when they want to be reminded.
Feature Still Under Development
According to Android Authority, the new feature should now let users set and customize reminders in the Calendar app for the first time. However, it is worth noting that it is still under development.
Twitter user, AssembleDebug, notes that "there is no straightforward way of adding birthdays manually." With that, it looks like Google is still working on the feature, allowing select users to check it out before it formally rolls out to everyone else.
With that, the feature might not actually see the light of day as it is still under development. The plans of the renowned tech giant might change along the way. Or better yet, it might see a couple of improvements before it debuts on the Google Calendar Android app.
