Valve may already be planning for the next-generation Steam Deck to arrive to the public soon, but for now, people would have to settle on the latest portable console from the company. A designer of the Steam Deck claimed that the second generation of this device will be a "few years off," and it may be a longer wait than expected.
Still, this is somewhat of a confirmation that the Steam Deck would be a series of releases, to bring more of its notable gaming power and processes for the public to enjoy in the coming years.
Valve's Next-Gen Steam Deck is 'a Few Years Off' says Designer
According to a report by Rock Paper Shotgun, there are plans for the next-gen Steam Deck coming soon to the world, but this "soon" timeline would be longer than what you may expect. In the report, Valve designer Lawrence Yang regarded that the next Steam Deck may be "a few years off" for it to arrive to the public.
Yang regarded that "a true next-gen Deck with a significant bump in horsepower wouldn't be for a few years." He claimed this as the company is celebrating the first launch anniversary of the Steam Deck, especially as they are looking back to its early stages and how the public received it once it was made available.
The team also regarded the Steam Deck to be more of a PC rather than a console, running the famed Linux-based Steam OS on the device.
Valve Steam Deck v2 is Somewhat Confirmed?
According to Ars Technica, the Steam Deck is widely capable of running the 8,000 titles available on its Verified list and Library, but soon, higher-end games may give it a hard time in its processes. This significantly puts the demand on a new Steam Deck to arrive soon, which is somewhat confirmed in the future, with better processes, power, and specs.
The Steam Deck and its Capabilities
When Valve announced the Steam Deck, there was significant hype for its handheld console as it promised to deliver massive performance and experiences on the device. And it did not disappoint the early reviews and owners of the console, as it can run massive games like "Cyberpunk 2077" easily, and bring 60fps right off the bat.
One of the most iconic things about the Steam Deck is its wide library of games that are verified and compatible with the console, despite being ported from the PC platform. This Linux-developed gaming console brought a significant experience to its gamers, and it is now one of the top-regarded handhelds in the market.
Amidst its release date, there were already rumors from Valve that it is looking forward to developing the Steam Deck 2.0, which will center on a 4K-capable device and a more powerful gaming experience.
However, this recent announcement from its designer gives gamers sad news regarding its next iteration, where they would have to wait longer for its next generation to arrive, to bring a better console to the public.
