There is a new mod for the Valve Steam Deck which caught the attention and interests of its owners but fair warning, you should not try it yet for your gaming console. There are claims that this RGB mod may damage one's portable gaming device, and this will not be covered by its warranty, meaning that further repairs would have to come from gamers' pockets.
The Steam Deck's famed RGB mod may look enticing for gamers, as it brings many colors to the mix which uplifts the plain design it has, but consequences may come soon after this change.
Valve Steam Deck RGB Mod is Not Recommended
The famous RGBDeck mod from GitHub is now seeing a significant discussion on online forums regarding its effect on the console, one that may damage it in the long run.
This process centers on integrating RGB led lights behind the Steam Deck, accompanied by a JSAUX transparent backplate for the console to give it a glow.
And while the transparent backplate does not bring any damage to the portable gaming console, the RGB integration may bring problems to it.
Additionally, the RGB mod does not damage the batteries of the console, which looks to be promising, but it is argued that it leads to damage to a significant part of the gaming device.
What Does the RGB Mod Bring the Steam Deck?
However, a recent post from Adam Honse via Reddit claims to avoid doing the mod on the Steam Deck.
This is because Honse found that it damages the device's motherboard in the process.
It centers on an issue with a small component "that did not like the added power draw on the internal USB connection between the motherboard and controller PCB."
At first, there were slight malfunctions on the light, but it also affected the game device's controls, leading to failure on its motherboard.
Valve's Steam Deck Mods
Valve has given the world one of the most famous and top-grossing gaming consoles in the world, and it takes the games anywhere with the person, as it is portable and easy to stow. The Steam Deck is one of the top-rated gaming devices now, and it is on par with the famed Nintendo Switch console, which held the spot for a long time.
There are different mods available for the Steam Deck that would make gaming better, and some of them come directly from its creators.
Valve gave the world CAD files that owners may use to 3D print on their machines or from companies that accept commission works, with different products like frames, grips, and more.
Apart from that, there are also third-party developers which bring accessories and mods to the Steam Deck to improve console use, centering on various additions to the console.
Gamers should still be wary of the mods they put not only on the Steam Deck but to their other tech as well, particularly as it could bring significant damages in the long run, like this RGBDeck.
