BeReal & Spotify's Integration
BeReal has been working on a new integration with Spotify for a new feature. Developer and App Analyst Alessandro Paluzzi confirmed the news in a tweet and stated that users could share what they are currently listening to when posting.
BGR reported that aside from songs, the feature will also work with podcasts available on Spotify, automatically detecting the content and adding a link next to the users' BeReal post. A message will say, "Listen to music or podcasts when you take your BeReal to share it with your friends."
This feature is still under-implemented in both BeReal's iOS and Android applications. But once the part is ready, BeReal users can share songs on the application with their followers. While this feature may be exciting to BeReal and Spotify users, it remains unclear if it will become available to the public or just be up for testing.
As of now, the developer has shown where this integration would be on an Android phone, which can be seen in Settings below the memories tab. A music option will be available where users can connect their Spotify accounts.
BeReal's Success
9To5Mac reported that BeReal launched in 2020 as an application to share real moments from users' lives. The app will notify users when it's time to take a picture of what the users are doing at any time of the day in order to make the content authentic. Filters and editing options are not provided in the app.
Two years after its release, BeReal became one of the most successful applications in the market. Apple recognized the French social media app as the App Store's 2022 App of the Year. In total, 16 apps also won in other categories centering on games, arcades, and productivity apps.
But BeReal was hailed as the iPhone App of the Year for its innovative take on the social media experience. It was also once dubbed as the anti-Instagram application for its features that can be described as authentic.
Several applications also replicated BeReal's features following the success of the app. This includes TikTok's TikTok Now and Instagram's Dual Camera.
The French application was also criticized regarding its response of "yup, we're on it." which came off to the users as not communicative enough regarding its problems. #BeRealDown trended on Twitter for hours, yet the company did not give details regarding the glitch.
