"Pokemon Scarlet and Violet" VGC Season 1 just ended last month. The meta was heavily dominated by Meowscarada and Gholdengo, two of the newest Pokemon that arrived in the Paldea region in the latest mainline game.
This February, it's about time to think of fresh strategies, especially with the availability of the Paradox Pokemon on the lineup.
The regional tournaments for Series 2 across North America and Oceania are ongoing. It's about time to think of surprising teams in and out of the meta.
These Pokemon might help give you an upper hand over other VGC competitors focused on improving their overall team build and synergy.
Best Pokemon to Use For VGC Series 2 in 'Pokemon Scarlet & Violet'
Armarouge
Armarouge, which evolves from fire child Pokemon Charcadet, is one of the most star-studded Pokemon of VGC Series 1. It's highly flexible because it can fit almost all teams.
It can be a Trick Room setter or sweeper, depending on the lineup, especially if it has a Weakness Policy. You can also play it as support with Wide Guard and Clear Smog.
Although the current meta is centered on Paradox Pokemon, Armarouge remains one of the go-to Pokemon in almost every team, with its wide access to various moves such as Armor Cannon, Expanding Force, Energy Ball, and more.
Iron Hands
This mecha-version of Hariyama has no access to Wide Guard, yet it retains Fake Out, a must-have priority move.
With its insane Attack and HP stats, it can tank almost all neutral damage from an enemy. The most usual movesets when building Iron Hands include Fake Out, Drain Punch, Wild Charge, and Volt Switch.
Some variations of VGC Iron Hands feature Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, or Fire Punch. Others prefer to add Stomping Tantrum for coverage.
You can effectively use it with held items such as Leftovers (for sustain) and Assault Vest (for Sp Def tanking). If you want more Fighting damage, you can include Close Combat.
Flutter Mane
Another overused Pokemon in VGC Series 2 is Flutter Mane, Mismagius' ancestor. Its Fairy/Ghost typing is good, especially with many Dragon Pokemon on the lineup.
Although its Defense stat is not impressive, its high Speed and Sp Attack are something you should watch out for. It can one-hit KO a Pokemon with no Sp Def investment.
There are many builds to try with Flutter Mane. You can equip a Life Orb for additional damage. Some players use Focus Sash for survivability.
You can abuse Shadow Ball or Dazzling Gleam with it. Flutter Mane can also lock Trick Room setters through Imprison and Taunt.
Great Tusk
Another Scarlet-exclusive Pokemon that caught a lot of attention is Great Tusk, a close relative of Donphan. This Ground/Fighting Pokemon has a decent HP, Attack, and Def stat.
Although its Speed is just average, it can outspeed those quicker than it when it has Choice Scarf. It's so devastating that it can 3v1 a team with Earthquake, its most powerful AOE stab.
