At the conclusion of its Q3 2022 quarterly report, Nicolas Peter made the announcement that BMW will debut a new Vision Car at the upcoming CES 2023.
The company will reach the next major milestone on its route to the Neue Klasse in January 2023. It will exhibit a visionary car at CES in Las Vegas to further its digital capabilities.
Peter said that the future of the automaker is "electric, circular and digital."
BMW's New Concept Car
Currently, this is the sole information that is available about the visionary car. Its size and design are still shrouded in mystery, but it is certain that it will run primarily on electricity.
According to BMW Blog, the new concept car will provide a view into the brand's future, particularly in terms of design but also from a technology point of view, as it transitions to a new design language and aesthetics.
This new Vision Car might be the Munich design team's ticket to redemption after receiving harsh criticism in recent years.
The second-generation iX3 and a 3 Series built on the Neue Klasse platform were the first vehicles to use this new design language.
The sixth generation of BMW lithium-ion cells, which will make their debut in 2025 alongside the electric 3 Series Sedan produced at the new facility in Debrecen, will increase energy density by more than 20% when compared to the prismatic cells currently in use.
Huge Technological Leap
Round cells will raise charging speed by the same amount and extend an EV's range in the WLTP cycle by up to 30%, according to BMW, which calls this a huge technological leap.
In comparison to the current generation of zero-emission vehicles, owners of Neue Klasse models will be able to charge their EVs from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes faster thanks to 800V technology support.
In addition to offering greater economy and range, it will put emphasis on interior space over an electric vehicle based on CLAR.
BMW unveiled its brand-new Vision Car concept a few months ago as it shifts toward a novel design styling and language.
Neue Klasse
Since the 1960s, the company's Neue Klasse has offered a singular opportunity to construct and create something from a blank sheet.
BMW plans to add more electric vehicle models to its lineup, ranging from high-volume versions to unique, high-performance variations.
The company's vehicles powered by internal combustion engines will continue to be based on different platforms during this time.
On Dec. 21, Solid Power announced that the BMW Group is expanding a collaborative design arrangement to license its technology so that it may produce its own solid-state batteries in Germany.
The partnership will allow Solid Power to share its knowledge with BMW regarding battery research and development (R&D), cell layout, and manufacturing.
