In case you missed it, Kojima productions released a teaser video for a Death Stranding sequel to the world at the recent Game Awards 2022, which was the first one held in person in three years, and topped it off by announcing a film adaptation of the Death Stranding film franchise.
Now, famed video game designer Hideo Kojima has provided more details about his ideas for the upcoming Death Stranding movie. And while information on who will write, direct, and star in the movie is still lacking, Kojima has shared that the film adaptation will have some major differences from the narrative featured in the video game.
'Death Stranding' Movie Key Differences From Video Game
According to a recent interview with IGN, Kojima shared that the anticipated Death Stranding film will be considerably different from prior gaming adaptations on the big screen.
The renowned game developer spoke about the complex relationship between movies and video games and how that affected his decision-making for the upcoming Death Stranding adaptation.
"I'm taking the approach of changing and evolving the world of Death Stranding in a way that suits film well. I made Death Stranding to be a game, and games are games." According to Kojima. "There's no real need to turn them into films. So in a way, the Death Stranding movie is taking a direction that nobody has tried before with a movie adaptation of a game."
The veteran game director claimed he had many options available to him when it came to producing a Hollywood film, but he also claimed that many of the offers he received did not fit with his own vision.
Comicbook reports that one of the key differences between the upcoming film in the video game would be the absence of Sam Porter Bridges, the video game's iconic main character.

'Death Stranding' Movie Still in Early Production
As of writing, Cinema Blend reports that the highly-anticipated Death Stranding film is still in the early stages of development. Although it has already been announced that the adaptation would add new characters and features to the branching universe, the game's precise plot will remain a mystery for the time being.
Kojima Productions and Alex Lebovici, executive producer of the blockbuster horror thriller Barbarian, are working together to create the Death Stranding movie. Based on a shared "vision" the two directors had for the movie, Kojima made a choice to collaborate with Lebovici.
Along with the massive Death Stranding film production, Kojima also discusses a short film he was working on that was "shelved" as a result of the pandemic in the recent interview.
