Google Adds FIFA World Cup Special Search Engine Features

Which club will you be following?

It is only a matter of days before 32 of the best soccer teams from across the world go head-to-head to determine the World Cup champion. The FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18. To help fans stay updated on everything World Cup, Google Search added an update to make developments easier to follow.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Google Search

The search engine giant has recently added a feature where an information board filled with recent updates will pop up every time users search for "world cup," "FIFA," and other related keywords.

This is not a new feature. Google Search also implements the same mechanism for other major sports leagues, such as the NBA and MLB. Google Search added these tools to make it easier for sports fans to stay updated with the latest news about their favorite teams.

The World Cup information board comes with different sections highlighting matches, news, brackets, players, and standings. It serves as a one-stop hub for everything about the competition. This will definitely save a lot of people's time.

The Google Search coverage of the FIFA World Cup starts with the group stages, which follow a format from the Round of 16 to the Finals. The information board also contains information about all the top players participating in the Cup, including Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

More Interesting Features

Perhaps the most important part of the new Google Search section is the Matches tab, where users can see the local time dates of the latest and upcoming matches. Host country Qatar will start the games in a Group Stage matchup against Ecuador on Monday, Nov. 21, at 12:00 a.m. PST.

What's more interesting about the Matches tab is that when you click on it, it also shows you other important details like lineups, public comments, and related news about the single match. This part also shows a win probability line, which can also be a really useful information tool for fans. According to the same tool, Qatar has a 27% chance of winning its first game of the competition.

Fans can also choose to receive notifications for their favorite teams and stay up to date on standings and news by tapping the bell icon in the top right corner of the FIFA information board. Users can also use the same Google Search feature to follow their club bets.

Fans will also be able to track the score in real-time from anywhere by tapping on a match and then dragging and dropping it anywhere on the screen.

More Details

When the games start, fans will be able to watch recap videos from FIFA+, the association's streaming service, and official broadcasters such as the BBC directly on the results page, according to Engadget.

Notifications do not appear to be available for desktops, but the dedicated Google World Cup panel will show you in-depth stats and win probabilities across devices.
