Twitter is allegedly testing to remove Hashtags on the platform, and this decision is to focus on paid links and branded content to get a highlight for different businesses and partner companies. This new development came from an app researcher who noticed the hashtags are not clickable anymore, particularly for those in the beta trials.
Hashtags became a part of the massive pop culture as people use them to follow topics and trends, as well as catch the latest information on different events taking place.
Twitter May be Removing the Hashtags on the Social Media
According to an engineer and app researcher, Jane Manchun Wong, the famed short-word social media platform is testing the removal of hashtags for users to click on these links and see the topic it brings. Wong noted that this new development removes the links where users may click the hashtags to browse the tweets which also used it.
This test is despite many people using hashtags to follow certain topics and see personalities or known online figures who spoke about the said information.
An example would be the #Apple on Twitter, where users bring their opinions or share their grievances with the company. Some who use these hashtags get recognition from the brand or company themselves, helping with their concern.
Twitter Hashtags in Favor of Paid Links, Branded Content?
Wong further stated that Twitter's hash click feature will center on paid links or branded content only, meaning that it will stay but for selected companies or online figures only. It is famous for the hashtags which have icons right next to them, focusing on highlighting a certain object that represents said brand to highlight more of what they offer.
Twitter and its Social Media Features Available
Over the years, Twitter and its team gave the world different useful features that they may use on showcasing their feelings, status, and what they want to share with the world. One of which is the mixed media tweet where users may share images, videos, GIFs, and other forms of media in a single tweet, without the previous limitations.
Another of Twitter's most anticipated features is already available in the Blue subscription platform, and it is the capability to edit a tweet once it is published online. The feature is rolling out to more users daily, but keep in mind that Twitter is still on its soft launch for this function, to help learn more about its use and benefits.
Other features also include better accessibility and control over one's tweets, especially as social media is regarded as a dangerous place for all.
Nevertheless, the removal of hashtags is a venture that not all will agree with, particularly as it became a significant help in learning more information about a certain topic from different people's points of view. Still, this removal is under testing, and may not take place should Twitter decide to pull back from its decisions.
