Apple iOS 16.1 Adaptive Transparency SKIPS the Older AirPods Pro

Apple iOS 16.1 Adaptive Transparency, which supports the new AirPods Pro, is skipping its older sibling, the first-generation "Pro" wireless earbuds of the iPhone maker.

It is worth noting that some iOS 16.1 beta users report that it worked for the first-gen AirPods Pro. But it turns out that its rollout on the older earbuds was merely a blunder on the part of the renowned tech giant.

iOS 16 Adaptive Transparency SKIPS the Older AirPods Pro

As per the latest report by Apple Insider, the new Apple Adaptive Transparency feature for the AirPods Pro 2 is apparently snubbing the original higher-end wireless earbuds.

The Apple-focused news website notes in its report that the iOS 16.1 beta surprisingly added an Adaptive Transparency option for the first-gen AirPods. So some tests assumed that the Cupertino giant expanded the feature to its older device.

But even though the option was available on the iOS beta, the feature does not seem to function as it should on the newer AirPods.

And this time, the reliable Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, says that the Adaptive Transparency feature for the older AirPods is nothing but a mistake. He notes that his sources have confirmed that it was a bug.

The journalist further adds that the said function "is not meant to work" for the first-generation high-end Apple earbuds.

And as such, it means that the new Adaptive Transparency mode will not be available to the older AirPods Pro. So if Apple fanboys are really interested in enjoying this new feature, they would have to get their hands on the second-generation AirPods Pro.

How Does Adaptive Transparency Work?

According to a news story by Mac Rumors, Apple introduced its all-new Adaptive Transparency mode during the debut of the AirPods Pro 2, which launched alongside the iPhone 14 series and the Apple Watch Ultra.

The new feature lets AirPods Pro 2 users specifically get rid of loud noises, which include construction sounds and emergency sirens. While the rest of the noise around them would still be audible.

Apple Insider notes in its report that the said feature is essentially a refinement of the Transparency feature of the first AirPods Pro.

The latter lowers the volume of surrounding noise like drone sounds. But this time, the new feature completely blocks loud noises while it is turned on.
