One of its latest features includes the ability to detect the presence of your pets at home, which will be available later this year. When Astro is roving around your home and encounters your pet, the robot will capture a short video clip of them and share it with you via Live View.

Astro owners can then call their pets or make them do things through the Live View. Additionally, the Live View can also take a photo of what the pets are doing. This new feature will give pet owners more peace of mind when they're away from home.

Better Situational Awareness

Another feature that is coming to Astro is a new multimodal AI capability, in which the robot may actively pay attention to things in your home that you want it to learn about, then it can notify you when something isn't right.

It will learn by simply looking at an object and listening to you speak about it. Then, Astro will add this information to its monitoring duties. When it sees an issue, the robot will take a photo and send it to you.

New SDK

For users who want to add more bespoke features to their Astro, Amazon will also release a new SDK. However, there are no details yet on when this will be available to the public.

Amazon will work with three robotics schools-the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Maryland, and the University of Michigan-to put an early version of the SDK into the hands of the students.

Considering that this bot is also Alexa-enabled, it's also easy to set it up and control it via voice commands. You can even share your view of the world with friends and family using the built-in camera on the bot.

Most importantly, it can alert you if there's an issue in the house, which is especially perfect for those who are out at work all day and can't personally check on their homes.

If you have a lot of money to spare, then getting an Astro may be worth it to you. It has the most complete set of features that you can find on a security camera, plus you can add more features via the SDK.

Astro's forthcoming features will certainly make life easier for those who don't have enough people to help with the chores or check on their pets.
