'Modern Warfare 2 Beta' Players on Xbox Discovers Classic Mini-map Feature

The traditional minimap appears to be a toggle option in the MW2 Beta.

"Call of Duty" players recently shared their latest discovery in the "Modern Warfare 2 Beta" version on the Internet. A classic minimap in the said limited version of the game has reportedly been accessed by players via a toggle option available in the game's settings.

According to an Insider Gaming report, the quintessential minimap appears to be a toggle option in the FPS game's menu. This is one of many leaks targeting "Modern Warfare 2" in recent weeks as it approaches its official release.

A Fully Playable Toggled Minimap?

The rumored new Modern Warfare 2 Beta feature was first shared on Twitter by user @Duarte55440146. The "Call of Duty" player was among the first to notice that the leak shows the classic minimap as a toggle feature in the game's menu.

Duarte discovered that turning on the "Weapons pings on minimap" option activates the feature. This feature has also been discovered to be available on the Xbox versions of the game.

When the minimap is enabled, enemies shooting will be displayed on the map, along with their present position. Any unsilenced weapon firing within a player's radius could be easily identified. This is an exciting feature that has already been made available for the previous "Call of Duty" game editions. Some game enthusiasts would prefer this gameplay style to the one currently available.

As reported by Dotesports, Call of Duty players have been vocal about their desire for "traditional" mini-maps to return in Modern Warfare 2. The MW2 beta minimap, however, only displays a red dot when a friendly UAV is active and does not display enemies on the map when they fire a weapon.

Infinity Ward Explains New Feature

In a recent blog post marking the first week of "Modern Warfare 2 Beta," developer Infinity Ward clarified some of the new feature's important details. "The design reason for this is that we do not want to punish players for firing their weapons," said Infinity.

The devs were also emphasizing that players should actively search out the origin of a gunshot rather than just traveling directly to where the dot is on the minimap.

Infinity Ward also stated that they are still collecting important feedback from beta participants in order to improve the game's quality before its upcoming release. The game's creator is also soliciting feedback on other features such as UI and target tracking.

Although Dualshockers claims that a number of changes will be made for weekend two of the beta, it seems that neither the minimap nor the Dead Silence Field Upgrade will be altered. The minimap was unchanged throughout Modern Warfare 2019 and remained the same.

"Modern Warfare 2" will be released on Oct. 28. As the release date approaches, we can expect more changes and leaks. It is currently unknown whether the Infinity Ward devs will choose to implement the current minimap.
