[LOOK] Chairbox Design Creates Coffin Chairs Perfect for Dead-End Jobs

Chairbbox designs a coffin chair depicting the essence of corporate slavery.

Are you tired of your dead-end corporate job? Are you tired of being stuck in your chair for long hours? Well, this coffin chair may be perfect for you!

As reported by Yanko Design, the chair was built by Chairbox Design, a former industrial designer headquartered in London, UK. The designer created this char so that "once the employee dies at work the management just needs to nail the lid and roll them into a corporate cemetery. Simple yet efficient. "

Made Entirely of Wood

The whole exterior of the char appears to be made of wood and carved to resemble a traditional casket, but more interestingly, the interiors of it look like it was made from wood as well.

However, the chair seems to have no comfortable padding for the user to sit on, but the wood might offer excellent lumbar support, according to Yanko Design.

Additionally, it appears to come in a range of colors, mostly different tones of brown from light to dark. One is made of walnut, while the other is from charcoal wood.

The origin and history of the coffin chair have also given rise to a lot of speculations. Internet users said that it appears to have drawn inspiration from Rene Magritte's painting The Balcony (1950). Four coffins are depicted in the painting on a balcony, one of which is a coffin chair.

The idea of a coffin chair captures all the dreadful feelings that workers experience during their tiring job. Hence, it is no wonder why many people resonated with this chair.

The Risk of Sitting Eight Hours a Day

Chairbox Designer said in an interview with Interesting Engineering that the conceptual coffin chair came to light when he was working on a standing desk project for a client.

He researched sitting and claimed that a study found that sitting six to eight hours a day increases the likelihood of someone because, by design, people are not meant to sit on chairs for eight hours a day.

"Some people mentioned that I used Magritte paintings as a reference but I did not see them before. It was just a pure reflection of my state. The first vision of the chair came to me when I was in my friend's living room lying on the floor with my legs on the couch. I thought that if I die in this pose they might have to bury me like that."

Chairbox Designer researched coffin construction and wheeled chair base when doing the CAD of the chair. However, this product is not yet available in the market because it has not gone through production yet.

The designer also noted that he mainly sees the chair as an art object.
