Is there life on Mars? Well, this house might give you the answers!
Both NASA and SpaceX have set their sights on exploring the landscape of the Red Planet. The latter is determined that it will be colonizing Mars this decade, while the former has conducted several explorations on Mars to detect signs of life.
But what if you can experience what life is like on the planet by having a Martian house on Earth?
Artists Ella Good and Nicki Kent created the Martian house with the goal of highlighting what we need and how we want to live on Earth by using Mars as a lens, as reported first by Interesting Engineering.
Additionally, the idea was created by two British architectural and design firms, Hugh Broughton Architects and Pearce+. Hugh Broughton Architects is known for designing multiple science stations in Antarctica.

The Martian House on Earth
According to a report by Fast Company, the building will open to the public next week and serve as a venue for a number of lectures and seminars on sustainable living.
Artists Ella Good and Nick Kent started the idea of a Martian house back in 2015. The project was ultimately inspired by several experiments that have been conducted all around the world for more than 20 years.
Many agencies or organizations have practiced sending people to Mars from Earth, such as the Hi-Seas of NASA, MDS of Mars Society, Mars 500 of Russia and ESA, and Biosphere2.
Spacecraft Systems Engineer Professor Lucy Berthoud met with Ella Good and Nicki Kent in 2017 and eventually joined the group to transform their idea into life.
After meeting an architect named Hugh Broughton, Ella Good and Nicki Kent received a small grant from the Edward Marshall Trust to work together on design projects with the architect firm.
In 2018, scientist Dr. Bob Myhill also joined the project, and the conceptual design was created in 2019.
In October 2020, Bristol City Council issued a planning approval. Construction companies were enlisted to give materials and labor by SCF Construct, which joined the project team in 2021.
Beginning in June 2022, construction is anticipated to last through the end of October. The opening is scheduled for August 2022.
The Martian House is a real-world example of how to live within your means in a limited setting that isn't driven by consumerism, in contrast to the swarm of fantasy depictions of Mars settlements that are often predicted on the internet.
"We're building a Martian House. It's going to be a real-life house that you can step into and imagine how we might live on another planet," the designers said in a statement.
"It's often said we have more technology in our pockets nowadays that took NASA to the moon. This project is about seeing what is possible and how far we can get with what we have here and now."
