The new iPhone 14 might not have any SIM card slot. This speculation appeared days before the new Apple Far Out 2022 event, which is expected to happen this coming Sept. 7.
As of writing, many critics and enthusiasts believe the new iPhone 14 lineup will be introduced during the said tech conference.
This means that the SIM card slot removal will remain a rumor until the giant iPhone maker confirms it at its Far Out event.
iPhone 14 to Have No SIM Card Slot?
According to MacRumors' latest report, iPhone 14 units may not have their SIM card slots.
However, there's also a chance that this alleged component adjustment will not take place until the arrival of the new iPhone 15.
"Apple will give eSIM a bigger push this time around, with carriers preparing to steer users toward the digital, embedded SIM cards rather than physical ones," said Mark Gurman, a well-known tech enthusiast, in his Bloomberg Power On newsletter.
He added that the SIM card slot removal may happen before 2022 ends or during the first months of 2023. As of writing, the use of eSIM is only available in a few Android and iOS smartphones.
On the other hand, eSIM technology is also not widely available.
This means that once Apple implements the SIM card slot removal, some markets are expected to retain the iPhone models with the said component.
What is Apple eSIM?
Apple's official support website explained that the eSIM (electronic SIM) is a technology specifically designed to replace the use of physical SIMs.
It works by activating a cellular plan from a carrier. As of writing, the eSIM feature is available on iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 Mini.
However, these advanced iOS devices still have their SIM card slots.
