Instagram: Vertical Feed Features Full Screen for Photos and Videos—Like TikTok?

Instagram is focusing on a vertical feed that would focus on an integration with a post on a full screen, and it would need to scroll up to get to the following content that fills up the entire device in its view. The single post view in the vertical full-screen layout would replace the smooth scrolling that would show the posts in tiles and their square look.

Instagram: Vertical Feed to Fill the Screens from User's Posts

Instagram announced today via its official Twitter account that it will focus on a vertical feed that aims to highlight more of the posts in a full-screen view, as opposed to its former setup. Many users saw the new feed earlier than others, and there have been mixed reactions as it focuses more on the Reels' setup than the square tile feed that concentrates on photos.

Users knew Instagram as a platform to share images square, making their content fit in a square perspective 1080x1080; 1:1) rather than a camera's default setting of a vertical picture (1080x1920). However, it seems there would be a change in the view now, but only on the users' feeds.

The photos and video posts would remain in a square format if they were not posted as a Reel.

Photos and Videos in Vertical, Mark Zuckerberg Says

Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg shared an Instagram story today that also announced its ventures toward a vertical full-screen feed. It is a new take on the company from its original setup.

"Zuck" said that it is a new way to connect and interact with friends that a user follows on their accounts, with the photos and videos posted in a regular orientation to appear in the vertical full-screen look.

Instagram's New Vertical Feed is Similar to TikTok

Instagram already had a copycat of TikTok with its Reels platform that focuses on a vertical video editing platform that aims to showcase edits from users that do not require the screen to tilt horizontally. Vertical videos first manifested in TikTok with its focus on providing a media that fit while holding the device upright, also featuring a fast-paced video output for users to enjoy.

Meta added many features to Instagram's Reels in the previous updates, bringing a more extended video output for all that previously only offered 15 seconds to 60 seconds of its clips to the public. Reels aims to promote original videos that got their edit via the platform and avoid the repost from users from other video platforms available in the market, like TikTok.

The Reels view will now apply to the entirety of Instagram as an application, and it would forego its last feed that features the square tiles where users can freely scroll to see the following content. Here, users must settle on scrolling up to swipe to the following posts.

It would have all the posts dominate the screens in full, including photos and videos.
