Apple introduced the all-new iOS 16 during its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2022, which includes new impressive features and improvements.
Mobile gamers out there are in for a treat with the iOS 16 update. The latest version of the Apple mobile operating system brings a few gaming improvements. It flaunts a revamp for its Game Center, along with Metal API updates.
The newest iOS update also notably expands its game controller support, which already includes the controllers of Sony PlayStation and Xbox consoles of Microsoft.
iOS 16: Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, Pro Controller Support
As per a news story by MacRumors, the developer wrote in a tweet that iOS 16 now has support for Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers.
Testut bared that the iOS 16 update allowed him to play games using the Pro Controller and Joy-Con of the Japanese gaming giant.
He went on to share screenshots of his Switch Pro Controller connected to his iPhone and him playing a game with it.
On top of that, MacRumors adds that Testut also pointed out that Joy-Cons work on iOS 16 too. It allows iPhones to support single left or single right Joy-Cons. But could also work with using both controllers at once.
According to a recent report by 9to5Mac, the support could potentially expand to Apple TV and Mac devices. But for now, we are only seeing it for iPhone and iPad models through the latest version of iOS.
This new support for the controllers of Nintendo on iOS 16 essentially gives iPhone gamers more reason to be excited with the latest update.
Mobile iPhone players currently enjoy support for Xbox Series X and PlayStation (PS5) Dual Sense controllers, thanks to iOS 14.5, which first saw the light of day in April last year or in 2021.
But this time, the game controller support is slated to expand to Nintendo Switch counterparts beginning the rollout of iOS 16.
iOS 16 Game Controller Support
Besides the support for Switch controllers, 9to5Mac reports that iOS 16 further expands to other third-party controllers.
The news outlet says it discovered from the internal code of iOS 16 that it is also bringing support for other gaming controllers other than what Nintendo offers.
It reportedly includes third-party offerings like BADA MOGA XP5-X Plus, Logitech F710 Gamepad, and 8Bitdo.
