Axon AI Ethics Board Members Resign Due to Company's Armed Drones for Schools

Axon AI ethics board members are not convinced that the need to prevent violence in learning institutions is to deploy armed drones that may help in security and hinder it from happening. These board members released a statement regarding their resignation from their posts, especially as it did its best to avoid the use of its technology for violence.

Axon AI Ethics Board Members Resign Due to Conflict in Decisions

Axon AI developed a TASER drone that is a non-lethal device that would be automated and fly around places to catch individuals that do crimes, whatever degree they may be. The concept is ideal, especially with the crimes and violence that happened recently in the country, but it is not entirely ethical as referred to by its board members.

According to a press release by Axon AI's Ethics Board members, particularly those undersigned in the document, says that some are resigning due to the decision of the company to focus on these drones. The venture would put these TASER drones in learning institutions or schools, and it will then prevent hostile behavior to push through with violent incidents.

No to Violence: Armed Drones for Schools?

The silver lining here is that Axon is temporarily pausing its development of the TASER drones, despite promising that it is non-lethal and claiming that they would help protect institutions from the face of danger.

Armed drones would focus on deploying themselves in times of trouble, and they would avoid any casualties from impeding law enforcement people or individuals that help to stop a person from doing their intentions. For now, it is a massive ethical case in the company from within its board members, and are rethinking what it aims to deliver.

Security in the Country

In the past weeks and months, two shootings happened in the country, and they came from barely legal individuals that had access to firearms and were motivated by hate amongst fellow countrymen.

Now, the main focus of technology companies is to check on their end-to-end encrypted messaging features as it may be where the suspects planned their violent spree on innocent victims. E2E encryption is one of the leading secured features online now, as it gives the users freedom to exchange messages that avoid surveillance from companies and entities.

Also, the Texas incident allegedly exchanged on Meta's Messenger that informed different people of their intent, with the company already cooperating with law enforcement to see its origins.

The initial reaction of parents and those that always go in public is to protect, and that is what Axon AI wanted to do, but some think its actions are too much already, especially for learning institutions. Arming drones that will stay guard in schools may be an idea to help in security, but it is not entirely good or ethical for the company.
