Social media app Twitter is reportedly preparing a way for users to get notifications about tweets that match a search term or keyword.
The new feature called Search Subscribe got its inspiration from TweetDeck, the desktop version of the social media platform that has an expanded suite of notification possibilities.
Twitter's Search Subscribe Feature
According to The Verge, the feature was first spotted by Dylan Roussel, an app developer. Roussel posted screenshots of what the feature looks like in his latest tweet.
The Search Subscribe feature puts a bell notification next to the search box. Once a user taps the bell, they will get notifications for the results of their search query.
For now, the feature is still in its testing phase and is only available in Twitter Alpha. This means that there is a possibility that there will be some changes on the feature before it gets rolled out, or it may not be released at all.
Although Search Subscribe is not available to the majority of Twitter users, the platform has an alternative offer for individual accounts that wants to get notifications or mute or block keywords. However, this is only applicable to specific tweeters and not the tweets themselves.
Twitter's Private Circle
For years, Twitter has not stopped updating the platform and adding features that it believes will make the user's experience better.
Aside from testing the Search Subscribe feature, the social media platform introduced Twitter Circle, a feature that is similar to Google+ private group settings.
According to 9to5Google, Twitter Circle allow users to form a small, private group on the platform, and they can freely share their thoughts and exchange messages.
Users can add up to 150 people to their group, and they do not have to be your followers for them to be added. The people in your group will not be able to retweet your content, nor can they share your messages with others outside of the group.
Algorithm in Twitter Communities
The social media app is also making some adjustments to the features that are already present on the platform. According to TechCrunch, Twitter will be adding an algorithm in Twitter Communities.
Twitter Communities was created to give users a dedicated place to connect and share topics they are interested in. It is similar to Reddit's Subreddit posts.
Now, the social media company wants the feature to gain its own algorithmic-based timelines. This means that the most relevant and trending conversations will pop up when a user scrolls through their account.
On June 1, Twitter announced that it would start testing this change within Communities across Android, iOS, and desktop version with a select group of users.
The algorithmic-based timeline will be called "For You," while the platform's chronological timeline will be called "Latest."
Twitter users can switch back and forth between the two timelines, and whichever timeline the user sets for their Community, then that will be the default every time they return to the group.
The company did not reveal how long it will test this change in the feature or when it will make it available worldwide.
