MediaTek Debuts First mmWave 5G Chip, the Dimensity 1050! Here’s What to Expect

MediaTek debuts its first-ever mmWave 5G-capable system on chip, shortly known as SOC, the all-new Dimensity 1050. It also introduced a new 4G chip and its first Wi-Fi 7 solutions.

The Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek, which powers a huge bulk of Android smartphones, showcased its new products that tech fans should be all excited about.

MediaTek First mmWave 5G Chip

As per a news story by Android Police, the Taiwan-based chip maker heavily powers most Android smartphones with its wide range of SOC offerings. Its share is roughly more than 50 percent of these mobile devices in 2021 and 2020.

It appears that MediaTek is attempting to expand its market share or at least maintain its position in the world of smartphones.

The giant chipmaker just announced its new exciting offerings. One of the most notable is its first ever millimeter wave 5G chip.

MediaTek Dimensity 1050

The first rodeo of MediaTek in mmWave 5G support is in the flesh of its upcoming mid-range chip, the Dimensity 1050. It comes in the fabrication of 6nm.

Meanwhile, the first Mediatek mmWave 5G SOC sports a 2 x Cortex-A78 CPU with 2.5Ghz. It also flaunts an Arm Mali-G610 MC3 GPU.

The Dimensity 1050 supports mmWave 5G spectrums in various bands, such as n261, n260, n257, and n258.

It is worth noting that the close rival of MediaTek, Qualcomm currently sports mmWave 5G on its flagship chip.

On top of that, some Apple smartphones, including its entry-level iPhone SE and its flagship iPhone 13, already support the next-gen connectivity as well.

MediaTek's New Chip

The Taiwan-based chipmaker also introduced another SOC, apart from its first-ever mmWave 5G-capable chip.

Android Police notes that MediaTek also introduced its new Dimensity 930 and Helio G99. However, these new SOCs are a dramatic downgrade from 1050 as they are still 4G-only chips.

That said, the two new MediaTek offerings are unlikely to see the light of day in the North American region, wherein 5G is now the norm for the latest smartphones.

However, the Dimensity 930, Helio G99, and the 5G-capable Dimensity 1050 have one thing in common: These new MediaTek chips flaunt a 6nm process.

MediaTek WiFi 7 Solution

Apart from the new mobile chips that MediaTek debuted, the renowned chipmaker also introduced another first.

Its new Filogic 380b and Filogic 880 are the first WiFi 7 solutions of the Taiwanese chip maker, which could power the Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

According to XDA Developers, MediaTek touts the Filogic 880 and Filogic 380 to be the "industry's best router and gateway solution for operator, retail and enterprise markets."
